How do you feel the physical body impacts upon the conciousness? Particulary in cases where the gender/species/age is radically different, I imagine this can have some quite profound effects on the way you interact with, or view the world?

Would you say there are degrees of 'seperateness' (can't think of a better word)? Or is just one person, two people, three people etc? If there are sort of grey 'blendy' areas, where do you consider the line between the different roles one person plays, and their being a whole seperate person should be drawn?

With regards system members that are much younger than their host bodies, do you ever find it difficult dealing with the lack of adult-free space? (I have a friend who is bedridden, and her parents are constantly around. This means she can never really establish any kind of independence, which I think is really important for younger people?)

Have any of you ever found positive models of multiplicty in the media? That is... not the whole good side/evil side stuff that seems to dominate the fiction I've read.

Danke :)

When in a chatroom with alleged multiples, they seem to switch very quickly between their mates. In one comment they're a little, and two seconds later they're a big, and three seconds after that they're an "angry alter", etc. For many reasons other then this though, I believe they're faking. But just wondered if this is possible for others.
I've tried to have my group better at rapid switching where we can switch out quickly and be completely separate while fronting because I think it would benefit certain situations, and I can't do it that fast.
Cofronting is even difficult... Our thoughts are kind of meshed... Or come out as one thought between the two of us. But they don't come out "I want to go!" "Me too!" All in one blurb.
I was wondering if people can truly switch as fast as these people in the chatroom do, because we can't do it even when trying!

I’ve been noticing a tendency since around September for me to almost never have a single personality fronting. There’s usually a conglomeration of 7 or 8 all up at or near the front at the same time. There’s one conglomeration that likes to front when I’m manic (I’m bipolar as well as multiple), and another group that likes to front when I’m depressive.

Does anyone else out there experience anything like this?

For those of you who are co-conscious...

How big is your perception change when there's more than one of you at the front?

There are times that I can't tell who does what, and it's confusing the hell out of me.

I was just curious to know if any of the systems here feel the need to have someone be the more or less full time "front-runner". Maybe not necessarily a host or original or anything like that... but just someone stable who generally has the reins?

I know quite a few of the systems and households on the list don't really work in that way, so I suppose this is more geared for the systems that do, or people who might have an informative opinion on the subject.

Really, the reason I ask is we seem to operate on this very unstable sort of sliding scale. There are times when it seems like we're all locked out of actually FRONTING... we can do things, but it's like sharing with everyone else and no one has true control, and then there are other times when it feels like everyone EXCEPT FOR [fill in the blank] is having the problem. It's usually not the same person though.

Sometimes this feeling lasts a long time, long enough that whoever is up front starts to wonder and question the validity of our seperation as opposed to an actual mental illness or disorder that isn't a part of the dissociative spectrum (such as schizophrenia).

Other times, we're SO seperate and have such a hard time coordinating ourselves that it really feels like we're disordered.

Anyone understand what I'm getting to? Thanks. Tonight's just very stressful (which seems to be something of a precipitator of these kinds of thoughts/situations)...

I'd like to just rant a bit about how our system works ^_^; Maybe it'll be helpful to those just realizing that they are multiple or something. Maybe not, ah well.

Our inner world isn't really a concrete world. It's on a need-to-have basis. It's like a giant empty space that goes on for infinity that we can make anything we want appear there. Like if I'm in the mood to walk around a New York-esque city, it'll be there. But if I'm in the mood for a quiet outing in the middle of an up-in-the-air heaven kinda place, it'll be there.

We have what we call an "over the shoulder" where if someone is up front, someone else can sit "over the shoulder" and see what's going on. When one is over the shoulder, they can't influence the person fronting or control the body, but they can see firsthand the goings-on of the day. But that's never really necessary because we also have a center pool that contains all of our memories and knowledge we gain throughout our period of fronting so the next person to front can see what has been going on and can act upon it. However, when it comes to our own personal thoughts, those do not go into the pool, nor do our personal opinions. So Afiel couldn't go to the furniture store and pick out a couch knowing for certain that I'd like it, because that is only my opinion on things. The center pool comes in handy all the time, because one of us can't sneak out to the mall with all our money and spend it all, then say that the money just got lost :)

I've heard a lot of people here say they have a main meeting point in their "world" where they can go and talk to the others of the system. We don't have that. Our center pool gives us the information we need if one needs to tell another something else, and if one of us wants to talk, they'll come up and co-front and we can have a conversation using the same mouth (obviously we don't do this in public because it'd look strange and like a person talking to herself ^^;)

There are also times where we can get off the shoulder and directly influence the front. I guess that's what people call "co-fronting". For instance, I can be listening to music while Jenny types up a journal entry, or Afiel and I could be co-fronting while trying to decide on what sort of drapes we need to match the carpeting. There have also been times when two of us will constantly switch places every five minutes just to have a bit of fun and confuse our friends ^_^

I'm not sure if this is the way a "normal" system works, but it works fine for us. I was wondering how everyone else's systems work when it comes to fronting?

Hello, I'm new. :) My name's Whitney and, as far as I know, I am a single personality. I have a "morbid" fascination (called morbid by my family) with mental disorders, though I'm not sure to what level I should consider MPD a disorder. But anyway, I'm very curious.

I've got a question...can the main personality be conscious while another personality is active (i.e. watching what's happening as if life was a movie, whether from a body or out of body standpoint)? I have this sometimes and my friends tell me that this could be a sign of MPD or something else. My friends, however, don't know everything. Any replies are appreciated. ^_^

cross-posted to [livejournal.com profile] hard_of_hearing, [livejournal.com profile] multiplicity, [livejournal.com profile] plural_living, [livejournal.com profile] synaesthesis, and [livejournal.com profile] oihanen.

this covers a broad range of topics, but it is about hearing. plurality and synaesthesia play roles, though, for any who feel they can give advice. it would be much appreciated. we've been noticeably hard of hearing to ourselves since we were 12. we're 17, now, and it's only gotten worse. but depending on who's front, hearing changes. not drastically, but everyone thought we were making it up until a friend pulled us out of traffic we didn't hear behind us. some people still do, though. but who cares. screw them. the best explanation we've got for now is that the problems are "sporadic" without revealing to the physician community that we're batshit crazy. we're normally paranoid about doctors, but since communication and control is better, we're trying to get body glitches fixed while the peace lasts. i've already been to the ob/gyn without clocking her. i feel accomplished.

details: may be more plurality-oriented. )

and that about wraps it up. sorry if it seemed like i strayed off topic, but i've got a lot of people to cover and compensate for. hope that wasn't a horrible first post. we've got our first appointment with an audiologist in nashville on the 2nd. wish us luck? i have no idea how to proceed with explaining all of this except for the "sporadic" bit. even then, there's the chance that the dr will say it's just our imagination. until next time..
