smoothness of switching

Hey all,

I've been skimming this journal (and I think I've pitched my 2 cents in a few times) for a while now, and one of the things I've noticed is that it seems that the transition between people is a sharp sorta thing. I have times when my head swims and I close my eyes and when the open again someone else is fronting, but I also have smoother transitions. I'm thinking of a specific situation that has a sexual context, so I'll stick it behind a cut .
I have a "willd" person - she's dominant and flirty and totally flaunts her bisexual try anything "I can and will fuck anyone I want" attitude. The rest of us usually restrict her fronting to times when she's alone with a lover or in a totally new place - as her dominant attitude also conveys a "don't fuck with me - cuz I'll smash your world as easily as I'll rock it" impression too. However, if she's in front during sex and our lover objects to her dominance, she'll get coy and flirty and grab someone else - either one of our subs or one of our more vanilla people, depending on what she thinks the lover will like best - and tries to mimic their personality so the transition is "smooth" and looks just like it's one person "changing roles". We tell people we're a "switch" - although they don't usually realize just how true that is! : D

This isn't the only time it occurs - it just tends to be the time we seem most aware of it occurring. I was wondering if anyone else experiences these "smooth shifts" too.

we have no problems with switching, unless a singlet is a good friend of ours, they never seem to notice much of the time.... our fronts have very similar voices (if not mannerisms)...

the biggest problem we'll ever run into is the occasional "brain fart", where someone else had stepped up without the other of us finishing his/her thought....

that leads to a second or so of eye-blinking on our part, when we go "what the fuck was i gonna say?"... but other than that, we tend to be more 'liquid' in our switching (whatever switching we even notice)...

*g* That happens to us sometimes, too. Slávka will be fronting as we walk in the door, and singing and dancing and listening to music through her headphones, and then I'll think "Okay, we should get something to eat," or "Now I need to do my homework," and I'll pop out and Sláva will take the headphones off and leave the CD player on the table and then, five minutes later, I'll realize I have no idea where the CD player is and I'll have to go upstairs and look for it. Once we left our coat on the bus. It's irritating, and sometimes a little embarrassing, but by no means dangerous.

I was the front-runner for a little while when we were very little, like up to age seven, and then became it again our freshman year in high school. While I remember the facts of everything when I wasn't dominant, I don't remember anything at all about how we felt or why we did things. Nothing at all. So that's a memory thing too, but of a different sort.

But in general, changes among us are very smooth, we co-front most of the time, and a lot of the time they're unnoticed. However, we do have somewhat different voices (Sláva's voice is a little higher than the consciousness's, and mine is a little lower, and a little raspy -- people have noticed this). We can always tell in the mirror or in pictures who's out, but it's doubtful anyone else could.

Our switching is very smooth as well. Like qilora said, most of Our main frontrunners have similar voices and mannerisms. In front of people We don't know as well, switches are very smooth and usually go unnoticed besides a little bit of confusion or lost train of thought sometimes. Usually Our girlfriend(s) is the only one who can recognize individuals, besides those of Us who are very different when out (like Feral who sounds like a kid, or Slave who doesn't talk at all). We view Our House as having a big living room with a big front window. Often, a bunch of Us will be sitting around in the living room listening and watching, throwing in their input and such. So switching isn't always drastic - just someone else standing up and taking the seat by the window they'd been paying attention to for awhile anyway.

Our experience is close to what shadowechoes said, except our communications are radio-based, so the comments being thrown in could come from anywhere on our world. Usually it's people hanging around right in the studio, however. If we go with whoever feels right and natural, changes in who's up front are very smooth. We suspect a lot of people might not believe they're multiple because they don't switch the way the literature portrays.

Ours are smooth too... much like what shadowechoes said. It's almost never just one of us "fronting" - whoever's corporeal at the time has the helm, but another of us is co-piloting, and the third is along for the ride, whether paying attention or not.

Duathir does most of the co-piloting, because that's what he is most comfortable with, while Crist-Erui and I take turns at the helm. Sex is another matter, though - in that situation it's me and Crist-Erui sharing corporeality, and things can get pretty fluid between us. He's generally a bit more submissive than me, but neither of us are specifically one way or the other.

Our switches are usually smooth too, though sometimes (when they're... er... less voluntary) it feels very sudden and disorientating. Like that moment of no-gravity when an elevator starts to move. If we're switching a lot of times in succession we get to feeling dizzy and headachey.

I also occasionally get the no-gravity switch.

Sometimes its fun, other times, let's just say a job with a strict anti-drug policy is a bad place to completely space out and try to catch up with ourselves.
