new problem

I have recently encountered a bit of a problem that has not showed up for at least a couple of years. Someone on my body reacts violently to physical violence, reguardless of the intensity. The problem is multifold:
1. I can't seem to keep her from fronting when I feel threatened.
2. I cannot remember a thing that happened afterward.
3. She will not stop attacking whoever she sees as a threat unless she cannot breathe. No ammount of pain or restraint will contain her. She is also not afraid of injuring my body or the body of anyone else present. Three large, strong members of my house were just barely able to keep her restrained, and even then the only way they got her under control was to (inadvertently) keep her from breathing. (She was biting and so one of them covered her mouth to keep her from biting them, which would have been fine had she not been crying and had her nose blocked with snot.) I came to on the floor with three strong people holding me down unable to breathe.
4. The only way to get her to front is to threaten me. Then she lashes out violently. I don't know a way to talk to her or reassure her that she is not really in danger when she thinks she is.

Anyone else have a similar situation? Anyone have any advice? . . . besides restraining me and then threatening me?

Well

She's aware of her surroundings enough to know when the body is in danger, she might be aware of what's going on at other times. Our suggestion is to try to say or write things down (LOOKING at it) and she might get the message while she's watching.

Otherwise, my brilliant idea (sarcasm definately intended) is that she might wake up when she notices things like adrenaline rushes, fear, and panic. Biological signals which indicate to her that she should be alert. Have you considered watching a particularly frightening or action-filled movie and attempting to contact her then? Some of the point of these movies IS to illicit these biological responses, and you can keep a note explaining things in your hand incase she fronts. Other ideas include going to an amusement park, with a trusted friend. That's considerably more dangerous considering what you stated.

Other than that, *shrugs* she may get bored with being a bodyguard, and you'll see her around more later, and can work on communicating then.

Anyway, what kind of physical violence are you talking about here?

I think [livejournal.com profile] spookshow_girl has some valid points and good thoughts. Plus I was reading an article the other day that said that the alters that often seem to be the greatest threat are often our greatest assett and resource. Colin Ross wrote in his article that it is the more "dangerous" alters that he tries to contact first and acknowledges their job well done in trying to defend us, then he asks them to set up new ways to protect the inside/outside people. But it's not easy when you have an alter that is hostile or angry and loses control.

Blood has done something similar on occasion, thankfully another in the system helps to keep her under control now due to a partial merging. It took a bit of time for the violent lashing out to stop.

Communication through those in your system may help greatly.. certainly the other points above are very good in order to begin that process. I myself was lucky to have another in my system that seemed to want to merge partially with the more violent one in order to stabalize the entire system more.
