We just finished reading “This Alien Shore” by C S Friedman. It is a pretty good science fiction book. One of the main characters is a multiple. At least one third of the book is written from her point of view. Not sure everyone will enjoy it, but if you are looking for something to read written from the perspective of a multiple that is not a medical text, this may be a good one. We did not find it twitchy, but other people might have trigger points that would be activated, so exercise caution, if you think you might need it. Review and summary: http://web.utk.edu/~wrobinso/shore.html. Enjoy. Also, if you are prone to finishing books in one large gulp, pick a day you have time, to start it. We just killed 7 hours reading it at work, so we get to do more work tomorrow.

We have another review at

Gabriel was so impressed with this book we bought a first edition for him. We just wish there were more books like it, or that Friedman would write a sequel.

Ah! Yes! I love that book. I checked it out from the library after seeing it on the Multiplicity reading list. It's an incredibly good book on all fronts; the prescence of a Multiple character is only one of the incredibly cool things in it. I read it cover-to-cover, returned it, haven't stopped thinking about it in the months since then, and am considering purchasing it. I've gone around heartily reccommending it to everybody who I can imagine it being relevant to.

In a way, I was a bit miffed at the book, because it used several elements I'd been planning to use in my own writing, and it used them far more effectively than I could ever dream of using them. Sigh... back to the drawing board.

It occurred to me that the setting of "This Alien Shore" would make an excellent and refreshingly unique roleplaying setting. How would one play as a Belial twin? What do the Gueran kaja actually look like- could we have diagrams? And so on.
