Sep. 4th, 2007 02:54 amHi, I just wanted to introduce myself. My name's Nicole and I'm a 24 year old senior at California state University Fullerton. I am double majoring in Psychology and Communicative Disorders. I am not a multiple but I am a mental health student so I just wanted to follow the rules. I'm really excited to have joined the group and I'm looking forward to conversing with everyone in the future. I work as a behaviorist for a California school district (no worries, I'm stim friendly and I detest old school ABA. My chief focus is dangerous behaviors; ie head banging and ways to supplement it with something less dangerous and I ONLY use positive reinforcement.) Thank you for reading this and I am just so incredibly excited to have found this group.

Date: 2007-09-06 01:34 am (UTC)Interesting. We'd never heard of that concept before; I go for your opinion on it. All but one of us are nail-biters--what could be considered a very commonplace "stim"--and we have a hard enough time just with that, telling people, "Hey! Stop yanking our hand out of our mouth! MINE!"
You definitely sound like someone we could listen to; I can hear Miranda making gimme-gimme eyes. Consider yourself friended back, a bit belatedly.

Date: 2007-09-05 07:11 pm (UTC)And I think your attitude towards stims (hey, I learned a new word!) is great. The host has the habit of rapidly tapping her foot/leg when she's nervous, bored, or... well just because, I guess, and I know she hates it when people bitch at her (or even slap her leg) because of it - it's not as if she's doing it conciously, or can help it! So, more tolerance for stims and stimmers :).

Date: 2007-09-04 07:57 pm (UTC)If you become interested in just learning about multiplicity, feel free to leave me a comment, as my case is starkly different from most. In the meantime, know I am a big California fan, friends, vacation, etc. there, so we'll get along just fine. LOL.
My name's Susana by the way. And again, pleasure meeting you. :-)

hm i've never really heard about stims though *headtilts*
when you say head banging do you mean like hitting yourself in the head/hitting your head on things on purpose? if that's what you mean that's kinda weird cause i didnt know other people did that too... o.o

Date: 2007-09-06 03:23 pm (UTC)Sorry for the belated reply, we're a bit out of it and haven't been checking this journal's flist. We're a multiple system living in a body with Asperger's Syndrome. We're also a Psych major, though we are also majoring in History and most likely will end up focusing on that in grad school.
Have done headbanging in the past, but no longer. I only did it when I was incredibly frusterated and when I was in high school, having issues with people there.
One of our system members is a psych type, but he won't talk about it much.
