pronouns, oh my
Jun. 20th, 2007 08:10 pmis it strange that i still use single pronouns? i've really just learned about the girls recently, and they aren't very active yet. but i have no doubt that they're here.
i guess i say "i" because i'm always at front even when they are. and even though i know that "rabbitt" was much in control throughout high school and the start of college, the other 3 girls just don't do much. (well, lily does like to suck her thumb at night, but she gets frustrated because the hands are so big.)
does anyone else use the singular a lot?

Date: 2007-06-21 12:27 am (UTC)It tends to bug most of us when a journal entry comes up with too much "we" in it. Even if we do share memories, most of what happens to us is actually happening to only one or two, and it's a big improvement to feel that we can disagree with each other or have different views of what happened. So "I" is comforting; it reminds everyone to treat each other like real people.
As long as you're communicating clearly, use whatever words are comfortable. English isn't very good for expressing these things.

Date: 2007-06-21 01:48 pm (UTC)The only time I say 'we' offline is when refering to myself and another system member jointly in therapy. and occasionally on the internet when refering to everyone or more than one person/being. Otherwise, the pronoun used is always I.
(I think I'd be too scared to use 'we' in public anyhow. even around people who know about us. I guess that's because I'm/we're so used to presenting as a single person, even though we're not.)
