has anyone else ever realized they had no backround of their own, and had it bother them? It's something I've always thought about to some extent, but with a baby coming(my wife is pregnant) it's really beginning to come to the surface.

I know WHAT I am, as far as species and things, but I have no parents, no history, no heritage to pass on. I've no nationality, or anything like that, not even a base religious experience.

anyone know what this is like?

I know what I am, what I do, what I am called. It is enough.

I've mused about this in the past ('must I have had parents at one point in time? where am I from?') here (http://lamialiliane.livejournal.com/1295.html), a little... but mostly it doesn't bother me.

You and I are here now, and isn't that what matters?

I do.......my husband and I just had a daughter so I understand what its like not to have anything to pass on. Make up your own heritages and traditions with your baby if you don't have anything!

Yes, though we gotta confess we like it better that way. See, most of our group feels tainted and damaged by their origins and history, and that's not a fun way to go through life. So we (Kate and Alison) feel like we're freer than the others as far as that goes.

Although if it's some kind of identifying traditions you're looking for, you could always adopt your own. We're not too attached to any nationality ourselves. In terms of religious beliefs/traditions, I-Kate consider myself a Baha'i, and I-Alison am basically an angry agnostic. We have several different religious traditions in our group and haven't really had any issues there.

BTW, when's the bebbeh coming?

We have someone who fronts regularly who has forgotten his history, but he's worked out who his parents were.

Yes. I'm there. Feel a little out of place when people reminisce.

YA I try to steer away from those issues but most people seem to hold some type of religious belief that they would like to relate with us about. However as you mentioned I too feel numb to many things, And since I have such a limited historical base from which I draw my feeling / thoughts, I sometimes have to rely on social cues from other people as not appear too out of place. This is difficult for me because I realize I'm sharing this reality with other people but I don't seem to adhere to it as they do. I'm not sure if I'm helping ease the distress you may feel; But know this, my children and I have a deep love for each-other based on the experiences we've shared, and that's what matters most of all. *HUGS*
