I've got this habit of staying up far later than I really should -- often as late as 4 AM, when mom wakes up and I'm reminded of the time.
On the other hand, Henry tends to take control in the mornings, and enjoys waking up early -- any time between 5 AM and 9 AM (shut up, nine's totally early), which means that the body doesn't often get as much sleep as it would prefer.

The logical conclusion that we've come to is that I should go to sleep earlier, rather than Henry waking up later, since I get the most body-time anyways and going to sleep earlier really won't dent my social life quite as much as everyone else's. However, this is easier said than done, I'm sure you've all experienced my problem to some degree or another. I've got people to talk to as late as four, after all, and you start chatting and reading webcomics and the next thing you know you've stayed up too late again and your head-mate's are upset with you (not to mention people inhabiting the same house as you, since you end up out of it the day after, or sleeping too late and then you don't get any house-work done and that's a bit of a problem, but I digress). Time just tends to get away from me, is all.

It's been suggested that I set the alarm clock for a time to go to bed, but I've only got one, and if Henry doesn't wake us up in the morning then I'll end up oversleeping and I'll get a "hang over" if there's no alarm to wake me up by noon or so, and we've only got the one and no one really wants to spend their hard-earned cash on another one or a new one with multiple alarm times.

I suppose since the body's getting at least a little used to waking up in the mornings I should at least give it a try.

Any advice? Do any of you have this problem?

Katters out.

Actually, at someplace like Target or Walmart you can probably get an alarm clock really cheap. $15, easily. Probably more like $10. That seems like the best solution, to me, honestly ^^ Either that or making yourself stay up so that you crash early just because your body NEEDS the sleep... and then try to stick to that schedule. That's how I handled getting back onto an early-morning schedule, for work >.>

I used to stay up like that all the time.

Well, er... I still do stay up like that, but as I no longer have any need to get up in the mornings, I don't fuss about it.

It really is very hard to go to bed when you're still doing things, and enjoying things, I know! You can get an alarm for $10 or less though, if you buy a cheap one without extra functions. So I really would suggest it. Assistance from friends may be a good idea too. Tell those you're usually chatting with what your bedtime is, and ask if they can remind you, and close their chat windows with you, when that time arrives.

Yep, problems with that here, too. Body's always up between 5 and 6:30 am no matter what time we go to bed. And I get really grumpy if we don't get enough sleep. We've solved it by setting a bedtime. Not that I always stick to it. *looks at the clock and whistles innocently*

Do you have a cellphone? Or (ugh) a pager? These things have alarms on that. In fact, there are a bunch of programs you can get on the computer that'll let you set alarms--I had one before, but I'm afraid I don't recall the name of the program.

Well, you can still set it to alert you at some time. You said chatting and reading webcomics, so I had assumed that you were on the computer while staying up.
If that's not the case, and you don't have a watch with an alert, I'm afraid I'm out of ideas that don't involve other people or buying things.

(Like the personal skywriter idea, though.)

Er, you know that alarm clocks can be reset, right?

Set the alarm for the time you're going to go to bed. When it goes off, get ready for bed and set the alarm to the time you're going to wake up.

If you can get someone to loan you the money to ship the alarm clock from here to there.. it has a thing that allows for two settings. Seperate. Two seperate buttons. And a nap setting that goes up to two hours. Don't need it here anymore. Would gladly send it to you.. if you can accept a slightly beaten up old clock.

Gabe is a notorious early riser... gets up at sunrise or right before. Andy also tends to early hours and of course if it's not them who wake up we've always got the 6:30 a.m. kitty alarm.* 9.9 If we've been up late the night before, someone will take an afternoon nap.

There are free programs for your computer where you can set multiple alarms, if you have sound on your computer you should be able to get one to work. You can get it to make a sound effect, or (our preference) play music.

On my computer, if I click on the little clock in the corner it lets me change clock settings, and I have set it to announce the time every quarter hour. This helps me not to loose track of time when computing.

My computer is a Macintosh, I don't know what kind you have. If it doesn't have that ability built in, perhaps you could find some freeware, like KSOL 1460 suggested. I really like the reminders of what time it is, more than I would like a single alarm.

We have an alarm clock with a snooze and have had to teach ourselves not to take it back to bed with us - it lives across the room on our desk. But that's because we have to get up for lectures.
Would taking a nap in the afternoons help? Or pulling an all-nighter and going to bed at a reasonable hour the next day? (Not a good thing to make a habit of, but an excellent way to reset your sleep patterns.)
