Has anyone read anything on the links and overlap between Bipolar II, dissociation, and seizures? Does anybody besides us have specific parts who tend to have seizures? I was at a recent drug dinner through work and a psychiatrist was talking about developments in this area. Some doctors are beginning to conceptualize all of these phenomena as seizure activity.

At a drug dinner?

I would ask: Who benefits?

Jay would say: Follow the money.

The main reason I can think of for multiplicity being linked with epilepsy is that seizures can cause time loss, so I'm sure there have been people who had seizures and weren't multiple but were assumed to be on the basis of the blackouts.

However, not all multiples experience blackouts or memory loss. (We did actually take an anticonvulsant once, and it made our memory really bad when we were taking it regularly-- when we stopped, it gradually returned to normal.)

don't know anything about them overlapping since we don't have seizures or bipoloar II, but I know that seizure medication is used to help treat bipolar. When they thought we were bipolar, they put us on depakote. My aunt takes that for her seizures. No clue if it would actually have helped treat it if we actually had bipolar though.

When the girls saw one psychiatrist, told him about being multiple, they thought it was maybe some kind of epilepsy, wanted to do a scan. Never got a referral for it though.

Also, what the guy above said. The girls were on something for a problem with their hand, drug was an anti-convulsant, used for epilepsy, also had off-label use for bipolar. Dunno if that shows a similarity or if it's just a coincidence. Don't think scientists really know either.
