Ok, I'm really nervous about doing this and if I do something wrong I'd be grateful if someone tells me.
I know I don't have to introduce myself, but thought it would be ok so you know about me up front as it were. Sorry if I bore you.
My name is Timothy (Please call me Tim). I'm 29, male, I have sandy blond hair and blue eyes. I'm slim and around 5'9" I live in Fort William in the West Highlands of Scotland, Uk. I have a partner of 10 years, David, (Yeah I'm gay.) and I love him to death!
I was 'diagnosed' with MPD when I was 15. I had 4 years of therapy and met David when I was 19. He was a volunteer counsellor at the time. 'Multiple ' is the wrong term for me, There is only me and Ray in here. Ray is everything I'm not. Tall, dark, confident, out-going, more like David. I know the general assumption is that 'multiplicty' comes about through some form of abuse or something. I want to be right up front and say that's not my case. My parents Lillian and James have been nothing but loving and supportive of my duality and life style. When I was 7 I was knocked off my bicycle and in a coma for 2 days. When I recovered I discovered I had a 'hitch-hiker' , Ray. He's here all the time but only fronts when I'm in stressful or difficult situations and David isn't around. (They get on well) I hope its ok that we are only a 'pair' as it were.
To cut it short I'd like to be friended by like minded people. I live in a very beautiful but lonely part of the world. I have a boring job in a bank and David works long hours, so I'm alone with Ray a lot. David and Ray (David found this site) both thought starting an LJ and meeting people like us would be good. My journal is brand new and I don't really know what to do with it. I have more about me there and I'd be so grateful if anyone with the same interests and situation would like to contact/friend me.
Thanks for listening.

Date: 2007-01-02 12:24 pm (UTC)We honestly don't believe there should be "guidelines" for being Multiple. For a few years now our group has considered ourselves Multiple, yet recently we're moving away from using that term because we're tired of bumping into critical opinions from those who believe that only trauma multiplicity is "real".
If someone tells another they are Multiple, the automatic reaction is abuse-created, or other "symptoms" that flaunted created by media.
Since we don't wish to be connected to the bad media portrayals any longer, we're looking at our lifestyle as spiritual. This way, if we relate to ourselves in a different manner, then maybe we won't be asked such doubtful questions any longer. Of course, there still will always be doubters, but at least it won't be from others who also considered themselves Multiple, as if every Multiple Group were supposed to be identical.
Mainly, we said this to let you know that how or why you are both together aren't as important as the fact that you just are. So don't worry about trying to fit into a clique or matching guidelines with other groups. Everything that exists for you both is unique and special for you. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise! :)

Date: 2007-01-02 03:03 pm (UTC)It's absolutely fine with us that there are two of you, and I think it's WONDERFUL that your folks know and accept it.(not to mention David, who sounds awesome also.) I'm genderqueer and bisexual, myself...and there are a couple in here who are also gay(you'd probably get on famously with Wolf, he's a gay brit.)
also? I LOVE your icon. I'm a big fan of Buffy/Angel and Highlander(I'm a MacLeod, lol).
feel free to friend us, email us, IM us, whatever.

Date: 2007-01-02 04:09 pm (UTC)Yep I'm a Celt through and through. I was born here in Fort Worth and my family have farmed around here for generations. When you say 'displaced' did you emigrate or something? Is your clan name McLeod?
I say we live in the wilds, David says its semi-rural. We live on the edge of the town. Our nearest neighbour is about a quarter of a mile away and it's a three mile drive to work. Its a mixture of farms, holiday homes, camp sites etc. We have a back drop of hills and fields and a small forest. (David says its only a wood!) Its very beautiful, but umm not exactly lively around here. (Although we did have a stag in the garden on Christmas Day, David was looking for a jolly man in a red suit and his shot gun. I wasn't sure if he was going to shoot Santa or the stag! Actually he'd never shoot the deer, though they can be dangerous when they have antlers!)
I'm really sorry and my ignorance is showing. I don't know what a 'genderqueer' is. I'm gay and always have been. I have female friends but sexually they terrify me. Ray is bi-sexual and we have had many an amusing incident when he's fronted and he has a wicked sense of humour. Oh lord David is a 'gay Brit' he's from Lincolnshire originally and he's not a multiple, but his sister was, and thats how he got interested in it.
Wow you have a multiple called Wolf? That is an awesome name.
I'm going to friend you if you don't mind and I might email if David says it is ok. Thanks for the contact.

Date: 2007-01-02 03:23 pm (UTC)Nah, multiplicity doesn't have to come from trauma. We certainly didn't have any omgtraumatic!events that made us split from our landlady (host). We just... jumped aboard for the ride, so to say ;).
And it doesn't matter how many you are, if you're more than one, you're multiple.

Date: 2007-01-02 06:39 pm (UTC)That kind of assumption doesn't tend to get made here (the abuse thing). And the girls here used 'multiple' when they were only two. If you want to use that label, you fit it, so you know.

Date: 2007-01-03 02:13 am (UTC)Our system started out with only 2 too. It doesn't make you less of a multiple and size doesn't matter. We've grown over the years to a grand total of 6.
If you don't mind I'd like to friend you. I can never have enough friends especially somebody who I can talk to about long lasting relationships. I'm afraid my husband isn't very social and can be a bit rough at times but I would sure like to talk to you (and Ray!) Welcome the community!
