Do you get lonely?

How long does it take to cycle through ''persons''?

If you are so fascinated with our world, why don't you try to be born in this one?
Is it easier to inhabit another person's body?

Can you travel astrally to someone else's body?

Are there certain chosen ones for this task or do you choose by random?

When you become 'someone else' do you know what's happening? Are you the one speaking or is your body taken over as if you were watching a movie... or do you just black out?

Do you think crimes commited while you are another person are your responsibility?

How many multiples have you seen in a single body?

I noticed on AstreaWeb that you have a list of books... they're more funny than anything...
are there any actual good books you can reccomend? Are there any books written by actual multiples themselves?

What do you think of the book series K-Pax (also was turned into a movie)

From the sites I've been reading, it seems many of you are upset that you are mislabled and misunderstood..
besides doing websites, why don't you try to do something about it? I can't imagine how it feels to not be accepted by todays society... oh wait, what am I saying... it seems none of us are accepted, but you all especially so.

Thank you for answering... I know you probably get this stuff all the time.. I just don't want you to take it in the wrong way. I found some wiki Multiplicity book that answered some questions but this is just my little silly list of questions I couldn't find on any FAQs.

Do you get lonely?

Yeah... sometimes. Not as much though as before we had each other.

How long does it take to cycle through ''persons''?

We come and go as we want instantaneously. James has trouble leaving our body since he's been alone in it for so long, but that's more a matter of having enough motivation than of it taking a long time to do so.

If you are so fascinated with our world, why don't you try to be born in this one?
Is it easier to inhabit another person's body?

We are in this world. It's just two to a body. We don't really believe in reincarnation-type things where we could be born into a separate body here, and even if we did we wouldn't have the slightest clue how to go about it. Besides, if we were in separate bodies we wouldn't have the closeness that we do. That's the most wonderful thing about it—knowing another person that completely.

Can you travel astrally to someone else's body?

No. Well, we've never done it and haven't seen it done verifiably. And have philosophical reasons for believing it isn't possible.

Are there certain chosen ones for this task or do you choose by random?

The two of us are better suited for different tasks. Unfortunately a lot of times it's just random, or it defaults to James because he's been around for so much longer. We do what we can, though.

When you become 'someone else' do you know what's happening? Are you the one speaking or is your body taken over as if you were watching a movie... or do you just black out?

We always know what's going on, but sometimes we don't feel like we have anything to do with it.

Do you think crimes commited while you are another person are your responsibility?

Yes.

We do commit crimes, of course, when we don't feel that it conflicts with our morals to do so. Going 10% over the speed limit, downloading unlicensed music, and I'm sure you can guess a couple others. But if we were caught, we'd share responsibility.

This also applies to things that are not crimes but that are still bad, like pissing friends off or stuff like that.

How many multiples have you seen in a single body?

Never met anyone else who's multiple offline. For online, well, reference this community :p

I noticed on AstreaWeb that you have a list of books... they're more funny than anything...
are there any actual good books you can reccomend? Are there any books written by actual multiples themselves?

We haven't found any books that represent our experience well, even those written by other multiples.

What do you think of the book series K-Pax (also was turned into a movie)

Hmm, guess that's one to add to the Netflix queue...

We are accepted. Maybe not by society in general but by our friends, who know us personally, know we're decent people and good friends, and don't really care what we believe internally. Truth is, there's no "society in general", there's just individuals, some of whom are less inclined than others to get onto people for how they live their lives.

An incredible amount of people today feel like they're 'crazy' or 'not accepted', just because to be able to live in this society you also have to live apart from it as well. That's just part of being an individual.

Do you get lonely?
Of course. Do you?

How long does it take to cycle through ''persons''?
Not sure I understand what you mean by that.

If you are so fascinated with our world, why don't you try to be born in this one?
I'm not fascinated with this world. I was born in my own, but now I'm here without a body of my own.

Is it easier to inhabit another person's body?
I'm not entirely sure what you mean here, but I miss my own body. I was markedly taller and blonder.

Can you travel astrally to someone else's body?
No.

Are there certain chosen ones for this task or do you choose by random?
Certain members have their own favorite pass-times and the like. I don't mind dealing with asshole customers, so sometimes I'm the one out the most at work; I've got a thicker skin than Lux. Certain members prefer only to come forward when there's something entertaining they can do.

When you become 'someone else' do you know what's happening? Are you the one speaking or is your body taken over as if you were watching a movie... or do you just black out?
We don't become someone else. It may look it on the outside, but it's basically just someone else taking the controls, like if you were in a phone call with someone and they passed the phone to their roommate. Lux has problems with surrendering full control so she's always consciously fronting to some degree, but when I recede, it's like walking away from the window.

Do you think crimes commited while you are another person are your responsibility?
They're our responsibility. If you're in a car with someone who is driving drunk and you didn't take their keys or insist they get a cab, aren't you somewhat responsible if the driver gets in an accident?

How many multiples have you seen in a single body?
Your terms are a bit off. There's just four here in this body. I've heard of more and less.

I noticed on AstreaWeb that you have a list of books... they're more funny than anything...
are there any actual good books you can reccomend? Are there any books written by actual multiples themselves?

I wouldn't know any, myself.

What do you think of the book series K-Pax (also was turned into a movie)
Heard of it, know nothing about it.

This is the first step. Finding other others who experience similar things, reinforcing the healthy and stable system management, helping others through conflicts and into resolution.

It seems to me like you're confused on a lot fo aspects about multiplicity, and some of these questions might fly better on other communities (for like, soulbonds, walkins, or otherkin) but I'll answer anyway.

1. of course.

2. um... can't really choose where you're born
3. I have no idea. I've never possessed anyone. We just happen to be in the same body, which is as much mine as david's.

4. Um... no?

5. I'm always me. But i assume you mean 'when I'm not piloting the body' so I'll answer with that assumption. Yes, sometimes I black out. Usually though, I'm 'in back', observing passively, but not acting. Sometimes making comments. Or sometiems I'm in our 'inner reality'

6. Um.... what? Why would you assume that we've commited any crimes. I am offended at the notion!! And I have always been the same person, thank you very much. Issues of reincarnation have little to do with multiplicity. A least with me. Do you mean, does subjective reality count? Beacuse if so, then yes.

7. My body, or oher people? I've heard of hundreds, but we only have about 25 in here, and only 2 main fronters, and a half dozen interested parties.

8. Good books are hard to find. People don't write them often.

9. Never heard of it.

10. Because public percpetion isn't easy to change. i don't personally feel persecuted, but i can understand people who do.

Before I reply, I think I should make a little disclaimer that I'm a recent member, and regularly lurk, and haven't yet made an active post on the comm... so I am sort of new, and still trying to figure out my *own* vocabulary.

I haven't answered all of your questions, but here's one take.

Do you get lonely?
Everyone does; while a multiple, my multiples don't necessarily communicate with one another, much. And I'm sort of like a... master switchboard operator. I don't know if anyone else feels like that.

How long does it take to cycle through "persons"?
It's entirely relative and individual; in my case, one persona could be in the forefront for the majority of a year, while other personas might rarely, if ever surface, and when they surface, it may be for a very short period of time.

If you are so fascinated with our world, why don't you try to be born in this one?
Is it easier to inhabit another person's body?

... Okay, this could just be me, but my understanding is that this isn't about alternate worlds or existences, so much as it's a matter of simply having more than one person in my mind and body. That is, for me and mine, there are no 'other worlds' to be born into, and my multiplicity is not a choice. It is simply my current state of being.

Can you travel astrally to someone else's body?
No.

Are there certain chosen ones for this task or do you choose by random?
I'm not sure what 'task' you mean. Again, for me - and I can't speak for anyone else - multiplicity is a state of being, but not a choice. It's simply how I am.

When you become 'someone else' do you know what's happening? Are you the one speaking or is your body taken over as if you were watching a movie... or do you just black out?
I've only ever had a memory glitch once; I'm always aware of what's going on, and who is doing it. For me it's less that I become someone else and more that someone else becomes me - does that make any sense? That is, I am doing and saying whatever is being done or said, but that I identify as someone else, when it happens. That is, the group of us identify as "I". We're all "me", in that sense... so we all are kind of aware of what's going on with each, or with whomever is 'in charge'.

Do you think crimes commited while you are another person are your responsibility?
I... am going to have to defer you back to [livejournal.com profile] child_recalled's answer; they said it better than I could.

How many multiples have you seen in a single body?
While I personally can think of 20 members who have surfaced within my own system, I only ever have 3-5 active individuals during any sizeable amount of time (over weeks, for example). That is, some members are more insistant than others, and make themselves more present. I don't know if anyone else has these experiences.

Do you get lonely?

Most of those in this system have the full range of emotions, including loneliness. I certainly know that there are times when I just want to have somebody physically there to hold me and tell me things are gonna be alright when I get all triggerry and scared.

How long does it take to cycle through ''persons''?

Most of the time, two or more of us are co-piloting, so that if one of us gets triggerred and has to run backwards into the mind, another is there to keep controlling the body. But if we have to call somebody up, it might take up to a couple minutes to rustle them up.

If you are so fascinated with our world, why don't you try to be born in this one?
Is it easier to inhabit another person's body?

I have no idea what you're talking about here. You don't really choose where you're born, and except for Tarnish, all those of my system have been "born into" this body. It's our body, not someone else's.

Can you travel astrally to someone else's body?
No. Judging by the questions, it sounds as though you are confusing multiplicity with spirit possession or otherkin, perhaps?

When you become 'someone else' do you know what's happening? Are you the one speaking or is your body taken over as if you were watching a movie... or do you just black out?

This is a "Your Mileage May Vary" thing. Some systems have where their members are aware of each other and some have where their members aren't. Those whose members aren't aware tend to have the blacking out, as you call it. Mine is a generally aware system, one where I frequently use the term "co-piloting" to describe it, so, it's more like being in a car with two steering wheels. The view is the same regardless of who is driving, unless somebody is either triggerred or forcing their way to fronting or something like that.

Do you think crimes commited while you are another person are your responsibility?

We take responsibility for our system and the people within it. If something affects the body, it affects all of us.

I noticed on AstreaWeb that you have a list of books... they're more funny than anything...
are there any actual good books you can reccomend? Are there any books written by actual multiples themselves?

I heavily recommend a webcomic called "Kagerou (http://www.electric-manga.com/)". It's a bit of a mindfuck, and occasionally triggery, but VERY well done story and beautiful artwork.

1) Actually, no, I don't get lonely. That's one of the main upsides of the situation, IMO, though it probably has as much to do with my personality and Johnny's as the fact that we live in the same head. I do feel a longing for physical companionship, though, like hugs.

2) We're probably not the best system to answer this, since we're still learning, but for me, coming forward is very fast when it works at all. It takes considerably less than a second - generally it's done before either of us realize it.

3) You seem to be making assumptions about my origins. Rob and I still have no real idea why there are two of us in here, or whether one or both of us came from "somewhere else." Actually, one theory we have is that it was "supposed" to be my body, and Rob's the one who jumped in. But the simplest model is that our brain just developed as two people for some reason. Since I don't remember the beginning of my existence any more than Rob does (or you do) I can't say whether being in Rob's head was easier or harder than any options I may or may not have had.

4) I suspect this one was aimed at Johnny, but he hasn't ever seriously practiced astral projection. I can project, and moving to another person is easy enough if I can see them from the Astral. But if you're asking if I can take control over them or enter their head, no, certainly not. I'd say that's either impossible, or takes so much power and skill that only badass uber-psychics who spend their whole lives training in a monastery would be able to do it.

5) Not sure what you mean, but if you're asking why I'm with Rob and not someone else, I have no idea. Rob's memories go back further than mine, and meeting me is one of his earliest memories. Also, it's hard not to be offended at the implication that Rob's the "real" person and I'm just some spiritual voyeur, just because I've never been alone in front. As far as Rob and I know, we both emerged from our body and brain in the normal way. And if one of us didn't, how do you know it was me?

6) Neither of us "become" the other. Sometimes I control the body, sometimes we work together, and occasionally, for a second or two, Johnny controls the body. But we both exist all the time.

That said - it's actually hard to tell when Johnny has taken control of the body. I'm getting better at telling, but it's been pretty confusing in the past. I've never lost time. When Johnny's running the body, it's not exactly like a movie. It's more like finding myself doing things without ever wanting or deciding to.

There was a long block of time once when Rob and I couldn't talk to each other, and I wasn't really aware of the outside world. I was still semi-conscious of Rob's emotions, though.

(Post split, because apparently there's a length limit.)

Date: 2006-08-24 01:15 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] mirrorbrothers.livejournal.com
7) Terminology aside - the way things stand right now, it takes effort for me to not control the body, so I would certainly be responsible for anything Johnny did that took more than a second.

As for the other way around... If Rob did something really wrong, I'd feel bad about it, but only in a fraternal sort of way. I'd be a pretty crappy brother if I let him get that messed up while I'm right here.

But from a practical point of view, the legal definition of "person" has to be the body and its whole system. There's just no way any outsider could police the interactions within a system. Maybe severe dysfunction in a system could be considered insanity in the legal sense, but the standards for that would have to be changed when the mainstream gets a clue about multiples, and anyway, Johnny and I are functional. So from that perspective, yes, we are responsible for each other.

8) We only know one other multiple, a triple. But we found an online essay by a guy who said he was a member of a group of 5,000. I don't have any reason to say that's impossible, though I'll admit I don't know how it'd work.

Terminology again - "multiple" refers to the entire group. If you've seen someone write something like "I'm a multiple" it's just another part of the chronic pronoun confusion you get talking about multiplicity.

9) Oh, hey, there was this one book... back in middle school, I found it in the library... What the heck was it called? It was about a teenage boy, with another guy in his head, always kibitzing and never running the body. They were writing a science-fiction story together. Reminded me very strongly of me and Johnny. And... I forget the title completely. Damn.

10) Never read the books or seen the movie.

11) I'm a geek, an intellectual, and I'm gay. If I want to fight for understanding and acceptance, I've got several much easier fights before I get down to being multiple. And anyway, every person who can say "I had a friend in college who was part of a multiple" is a step forward at this point.

- Rob, Johnny

Do you get lonely?
Frequently. I'm an introvert (well, all but one of me is), but I need to be around people sometimes. Not necessarily interacting with them, just being around them.

How long does it take to cycle through ''persons''?
It's almost completely random and can happen at very inconvenient times.

If you are so fascinated with our world, why don't you try to be born in this one?
Actually, I'm not all that fascinated with this world; in fact, Dragon isn't from here, desperately wants to go back home, and gets phantom limb feelings from the missing wings.

Is it easier to inhabit another person's body?
Easier than what?

Can you travel astrally to someone else's body?
Nope.

Are there certain chosen ones for this task or do you choose by random?
You mean the task I can't do?

When you become 'someone else' do you know what's happening? Are you the one speaking or is your body taken over as if you were watching a movie... or do you just black out?
Core is like the director of a willful orchestra: always knows what's happening but can't always control it. Core may try to get Extrovert to come out, or try to banish Sex Fiend, but that often fails.
I've only blacked out once and that was when Suicidal took about 37 generic xanax. Somebody, and I still don't know who, walked inside the house and upstairs and removed bra while leaving shirt on.
I think Suicidal actually succeeded, because aside from a temporary vacation from consciousness I'm fine, in fact it was something of a catharsis, and since then my mood's gotten extremely gray but not black. It's only been a few weeks though.

Do you think crimes commited while you are another person are your responsibility?
Since I'm not fully separated, I would say yes.

How many multiples have you seen in a single body?
I don't know.

Not answering book questions because I'm not familiar with the books you ask about.

I get the impression you're a, uh, a median? Is that the term? We're talking to someone who's new to this. You might want to explain more about what that means and how you're different from some of the rest of us.

Actually, come to think of it, I'd probably learn something from that, too.

I guess that's not really a question for me, but I did get groped by Rob's boyfriend once. As I'm straight, that was definitely an awkward moment. (We were sleep-deprived, which seems to make partial switching much easier.)

Sometimes we can be lonely for specific people, but I don't think that's what you're asking.
Sometimes I get lonely for 'people outside.' Its kind of like when you hang out with a group of friends a lot and want to talk to someone outside of it for a different opion or such.

Is this still the astral travel question? If so: whoever feels like it and has the energy to do it.
@Its not always easy to leave this system.@

When you become 'someone else' do you know what's happening? Are you the one speaking or is your body taken over as if you were watching a movie... or do you just black out?
%We co-front. This system has almost always been co-conciousness.
I guess its like the movie.%

Do you think crimes commited while you are another person are your responsibility?
Erf...this is something we really haven't had to deal with. I suppose I'd try to make whoever did it deal with the consequences. But in the end its everyone's (or, at least, everyone who's awake) responsability.

How many multiples have you seen in a single body?
I've heard of systems with hundreds, but I don't think I've met any off LJ. I really don't know...or care that much

I noticed on AstreaWeb that you have a list of books... they're more funny than anything...
are there any actual good books you can reccomend? Are there any books written by actual multiples themselves?

%We don't pay attention to these kinds of books.%

What do you think of the book series K-Pax (also was turned into a movie)
Er...it sounds familar, but never heard of it.

It happens. People are misunderstood. The best way to get accepted is to get real information out there. But even if that happens, the stereotype still exists.
We don't really do much to try and change the image of Multiples. We're out to a large number of our friends, but other than that I haven't attempted anything.

and just to let you know, I'm stealing these Q's, for our FAQ - Liz.

Do you get lonely?
Absolutely. We all get lonely, and I(Tara)get an overwhelming lonely feeling sometimes, considering my wife and soulmate lives in the body with me, and can't therefore connect with her physically...

How long does it take to cycle through ''persons''?
we're rather accomplished at switching out almost instantly, but sometimes(like when we're trying too hard, due to being called out or something)it takes a little longer.

If you are so fascinated with our world, why don't you try to be born in this one?
I don't know about you, but we ARE of this world. just lucky or unlucky enough to be crammed into one body. ETA: I'm Elven, but Earthling - Tara.

Is it easier to inhabit another person's body?
sometimes yes, sometimes no.

Can you travel astrally to someone else's body?
yes, we can...although it's not really astral travel, as astral travel is something else entirely, but yes, we can travel to other systems who are willing to recieve us(and Faith and I even traveled to a singlemind's mind once - Tara)

Are there certain chosen ones for this task or do you choose by random?
We live our individual lives, as hard as that is, and daily life is pretty much random, or by our own add personalities...there are some things some of us do specifically, like Faith takes pain, or does heavy lifting;), or Liz is the whiz at computers...but mostly it's just who we are...

When you become 'someone else' do you know what's happening? Are you the one speaking or is your body taken over as if you were watching a movie... or do you just black out?
when we switch, the conscious mind of the body switches too...we have a common memory pool, so switching mid-conversation is almost seamless(with the exception of the difference in voices and mannerisms, lol)

Do you think crimes commited while you are another person are your responsibility?
absolutely...being a co-conscious system, in our opinion, it would be all of our responsibility to stop the person committing the crimes, so if we fail, it's all of our responsibility to accept the punishment.

How many multiples have you seen in a single body?
do you mean how big a system have we seen? well, we know several larger systems, the one that we actually know, and hang out with, is so large, they don't know how many there are...

I noticed on AstreaWeb that you have a list of books... they're more funny than anything...
are there any actual good books you can reccomend? Are there any books written by actual multiples themselves?
We personally wouldn't know, we haven't read any good ones, and only two in general, the two being "Sybil"(which we wouldn't sic on our worst enemy) and some non-fic med study or other called "The Mirror has Two Faces" or some such nonsense...

What do you think of the book series K-Pax (also was turned into a movie)
never seen it

From the sites I've been reading, it seems many of you are upset that you are mislabled and misunderstood..
besides doing websites, why don't you try to do something about it? I can't imagine how it feels to not be accepted by todays society... oh wait, what am I saying... it seems none of us are accepted, but you all especially so.

I've actually decided to, I've got a backround in semi-professional activism, and I've decided to become and activist for multiples...but it's touchy, as it's still seen as a neurosis diagnosis... - Rick

Do you get lonely?
Yup lots of times we do.

How long does it take to cycle through ''persons''?
Multiples "switch" at different rates depending on a whole lot of variables, mostly on just now their system works though.

If you are so fascinated with our world, why don't you try to be born in this one?
Is it easier to inhabit another person's body?
I believe fish answered this above in reply to the gender question. I just want to add that technically I was "born" in this world when this body was 13 but most dr type people would say i was created in sj's head :/

Can you travel astrally to someone else's body?
astrally? Not exactly but we have something set up with our lovers system so that we can all travel back and forth. We have done astral travel before for other things and for us it isnt the same *shrugs*.

Are there certain chosen ones for this task or do you choose by random?
Years ago we tried doing the certain people for certain tasks thing but over the last 7 years it has worked itself out to where there is no need to schedule who does what for the most part. If something needs to be done whoever is out usually does it or if they cant they get someone else to do it. (except that we are all lazy as hell for the most part so lots of stuff doesnt get done but thats due to laziness not being mulitple lol)

When you become 'someone else' do you know what's happening? Are you the one speaking or is your body taken over as if you were watching a movie... or do you just black out?
hmmm ok heres an example...Fish was out a minute ago when he replied up there. He knew I wanted to do this and he didnt feel like staying out so he went in and I came out. He did not become me. Does that make sense?

Do you think crimes commited while you are another person are your responsibility?
We believe multiple systems need to take responisibility for things like this as a whole. It wont give any multiple a positive light if some are running around saying it wasnt me it was him/her/them. Not all systems have as much control as others but I think if your system doesnt have enough control to not kill someone then umm maybe you should be locked up. Im sure a lot of people would disagree with us on this but that is just our opinion on that subject.

How many multiplespeople have you seen in a single body?
(we dont mind the use of the words alters or others but some people do, but only our body is multiple)
We use to have approximately 1300 people in our system including all the "fragments". Most people find that hard to belive but there was extensive documentation. That was several years ago, now there are about 40 to 50 of us but only about 8-12 of us front on a consist basis. The others come out here and there when they have something they want to say or do.

I noticed on AstreaWeb that you have a list of books... they're more funny than anything...
are there any actual good books you can reccomend? Are there any books written by actual multiples themselves?
There was a lot of controversy over the book written by Cameron West. We liked it, a lot of multiples we know hated it. All depends on point of view I guess.

What do you think of the book series K-Pax (also was turned into a movie)
dont know that book or movie.

7 years ago when sj first found out she was multiple, there werent even as many websites as there are now. People were just starting to really talk about it more and more. Lots of reasons, some people are afraid of being locked up, or they are afraid of losing their jobs or their families so they cant speak out. Some feel even the well meaning professionals are just patronizing us. If we all went and stood on a hill in Washington they would say look at the crazies they really think there is more than one person living in their body. *shrugs* thankfully not everyone in our system is as cynical as me.

Do you get lonely? Sometimes. Being plural doesn't stop people from getting lonely, any more than being married or living with friends or family does.

How long does it take to cycle through ''persons''? Ummm, what? We're people, not a washing machine; we don't 'cycle'.

If you are so fascinated with our world, why don't you try to be born in this one? Is it easier to inhabit another person's body? Hello... I WAS born in this world; I'm not typing this from the Spirit Realm. I've never inhabited anyone else's body, either. My 'brother' Kír is the only one of us who wasn't born in this body and doesn't regard it as his own - having watched what he's gone through over the past 35 years, I would say no, it's definitely not easier.

Question for you: how exactly do you think a person can "try to be born in this world"? What would be the first step in that process?

Can you travel astrally to someone else's body? Not as far as I know, but I haven't ever tried.

Are there certain chosen ones for this task or do you choose by random? What 'task'? If you mean the task of answering your questions, I'm doing it because I'm the one who's 'up', and I'm hanging out on Livejournal because I happen to feel like it. Crist-Erui doesn't write, and Kír doesn't care for all the erroneous assumptions behind your questions, so if I wasn't answering them, nobody would be. It's not like we took a vote or drew straws or something, though.

When you become 'someone else' do you know what's happening? Are you the one speaking or is your body taken over as if you were watching a movie... or do you just black out? First of all, I don't "become someone else" - I'm always myself, and my 'brothers' are always themselves too. Yes, we know what's happening when we switch. Whoever's 'up' is the one who's speaking. No, it's not at all like watching a movie, nor do any of us ever 'black out'.

Do you think crimes commited while you are another person are your responsibility? Again, I don't "become another person". But yes, all three of us are responsible to and for one another, in many different ways and on many different levels.

How many multiples have you seen in a single body? Not sure - maybe half a dozen or so that I've personally met, who share the body of one of my realtime friends. Her 'siblings' tend to be kind of *blendy*, though, and don't really like to identify themselves, so it's hard to be certain.

I noticed on AstreaWeb that you have a list of books... they're more funny than anything... are there any actual good books you can reccomend? Are there any books written by actual multiples themselves? Heh, try Crompton Divided (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0030439965/104-9352196-5047917?v=glance&n=283155) by Robert Sheckley. Yeah, okay, so it's humorous science fiction; it still beats the heck out of such tripe as Sybil, When Rabbit Howls or The Minds of Billy Milligan. Publicly admitting to being part of a multiple House ('system', as they're called) is a very risky thing to do, and I haven't heard of any authors who've done it.

What do you think of the book series K-Pax (also was turned into a movie) Never heard of it.

Besides doing websites, what do you suggest we could do? It's not like the people who write the DSM are elected officials who can be voted out of office, y'know - nor is the psychiatric establishment likely to listen to anything we say. Boycott them? Sure thing, but there's probably not enough of us to even make them notice. Our best option may be to become active in the anti-psychiatry movement (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-psychiatry), but such activism tends to consist largely of *doing websites*, since that's the most efficient way of reaching a large number of people.

1) Oddly enough, yes.

2) Depends on who's coming or going. Sometimes instantly, sometimes a few minutes

3)I'm not fasinated, I have a trauma abuse victim, my multiplicity was created to escape this world.

4) lol, sharing isn't everyone's forte

5) No

6) There are people for set tasks, but sometimes switching is random.

7)In my case, depends on who's out. With some I'm coconsious, some I'm watching, and other times there's the amnesia barrier.

8) Yeah, I ended up returning a closet of stolen goods to a former employer.

9) I've seen polyfragments with upwards of 600 + in a single body.

10) When Rabbit Howls by Trudi Chase

11) Never read it

lol, and never be afraid to ask questions. I'd rather you ask than assume.

Do you get lonely?
Doesn't everyone?

How long does it take to cycle through ''persons''?
Often we don't. We just stay as one person. When we're not One!Person(tm) we're blendy and just swishing back and forth, so I guess the answer is "instantly."

If you are so fascinated with our world, why don't you try to be born in this one?
I have no idea what you're talking about. I don't even know what your world is?

Is it easier to inhabit another person's body?
Uh. Being born is pretty easy, I find... Maybe I'm just missing your point.

Can you travel astrally to someone else's body?
I've never cared to try. Assuming I'm not bullshitting, which is possible, I can float around, I've just never gone to anybody else's body.

Are there certain chosen ones for this task or do you choose by random?
'This task' being...? Astral floating? Answering LJ questions?

When you become 'someone else' do you know what's happening? Are you the one speaking or is your body taken over as if you were watching a movie... or do you just black out?
Uhm, I never 'become someone else', sorry. I am always me, even when we're blendy, even when we're a vague personalityless being, we never become anybody else. If you mean what happens when we *switch*, with Lu/me/Chloe we're usually all aware of what's going on though not controlling. Michael causes blackouts.

Do you think crimes commited while you are another person are your responsibility?
They are the body's responsibility. If she does something, whether I could stop it or not, we all go to jail for it. Everybody is responsible for themselves, but everybody has to shoulder some blame.

How many multiples have you seen in a single body?
Hah. How many have been claimed, or how many do I believe? Online, just look around. People say hundreds. Pick a number :P

I noticed on AstreaWeb that you have a list of books... they're more funny than anything...
are there any actual good books you can reccomend? Are there any books written by actual multiples themselves?

No. I don't read books about multiplicity because they do not interest me. Unless you mean the witches Terry Pratchett books.

What do you think of the book series K-Pax (also was turned into a movie)
Never seen it. Wasn't that about an alien, not a multiple?

From the sites I've been reading, it seems many of you are upset that you are mislabled and misunderstood..
besides doing websites, why don't you try to do something about it? I can't imagine how it feels to not be accepted by todays society... oh wait, what am I saying... it seems none of us are accepted, but you all especially so.

... From the way you're talking, I'm guessing you're not multiple, and view us all as this kind of weird mass, huh o_O Some of us *are* doing something, kthnx ;P

Do you get lonely?
Of course, everybody gets lonely from time to time. I have it easier, because I am me and multiple in the same time, but of course I do get lonely at times. (I have my own sub-space with other people, if any of you have read Dune, you would know what I am talking about here, Other Memories, basically, plus there *are* some of my Family members in the soulbond/walk-in sense too :)

How long does it take to cycle through ''persons''?
Speaking of body-system or the most broadened system of ours, we don't cycle. Speaking of my own group of people around me, we don't cycle, either. But I know Nat does cycles with zie's aspects. I will tell zie to take a closer look at this thread when zie's back.

If you are so fascinated with our world, why don't you try to be born in this one?
Personally, I was born here on Earth, multiple times before. :) I don't feel the need to have my body in here, it would never have the same qualities as my Dune body. Interest is not same as desire. Thank you very much for offering such thing, though. :)

Is it easier to inhabit another person's body?
I am not entirely sure what you mean here, but basically, I haven't noted much difference, except this Earth body doesn't have some capabilities my Dune one had. Though this is what's called being human, I guess, and I enjoy having humanity sort of back again. Not speaking about others here.

Can you travel astrally to someone else's body?
No, not astrally, but I *can* travel between bodies. (Edit: Vampiregirl, who is Nat's aspect, says she can do it astrally, but for moral and ethical reasons doesn't do it, respecting other people's free will as she would like her be respected.)

Are there certain chosen ones for this task or do you choose by random?
I don't understand entirely how such thing would be a matter of "choosing". It's not like some astronaut-sending mission, we're talking about people who have the obvious interest to do so... and I wonder we don't have such people much :)

When you become 'someone else' do you know what's happening? Are you the one speaking or is your body taken over as if you were watching a movie... or do you just black out?

We are not 'someone else'- speaking for whole group connected to body.
Speaking for myself and my collective, when I am someone else/blended with someone else/ there's always some part of --me-. I couldn't be here if I wasn't able to stay myself during the experiments... I would be something close to possessed and that's not desirable.
Nat says zie had blacking out and movie-like changes in the past when zie was yet someone else, but it's from DID period and zie doesn't want to talk about this unfunctional communication quite much.

My answers part two

Date: 2006-08-24 02:00 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] leto-2-atreides.livejournal.com

Do you think crimes commited while you are another person are your responsibility?

It is our responsibility, of all of us- us who have sub-systems, us who live in the body-system, us as friends, us and our friends plus visitors from another dimensions that stay in a body for a while... it's up to us all to cooperate. There doesn't EXIST something like "It wasn't me, ooooo." Under collective definitions, it's considered a lie, you have to be responsible for yourself and face the consequences. Under my definitions, that is called not being functional and it's not an apology nor a pardon. Whatever has done it, body did it, and would go to jail. I guess that pretty much wouldn't work for us, being in jail, because as I know aspects of some of us, it would be just too bad.

How many multiples have you seen in a single body?
You mean people? There are some suspects we have more than thousand of us, when counting also with various variants of people and aspects of people, but generally, we don't much care.
Speaking about my experience, I make regular contact with about 20 people of Nat's collective and occasional visitors (Yes, Shuya, talking about you here. :), when not counting "my" people (my Sister, my Father, my Mother, my Grandma...)

I noticed on AstreaWeb that you have a list of books... they're more funny than anything...
are there any actual good books you can reccomend? Are there any books written by actual multiples themselves?

I don't know of. Just kidding---... you haven't read God Emperor of Dune's journals, have you? That was written by an actual multiple. Though slight another reality perhaps, I must admit.

What do you think of the book series K-Pax (also was turned into a movie)

Vampiregirl here-- Nat has seen it together with me as a movie, not a book. I think it was nice, but closer to her experience than mine. I'm not a walk-in, I'm just aspected person, she has the more extra-terristrial experiences than I do and could relate more.

From the sites I've been reading, it seems many of you are upset that you are mislabled and misunderstood..
Leto again: I'm misunderstood and mislabeled all the time, I'm quite used to it :) Your Shaitan.

besides doing websites, why don't you try to do something about it? I can't imagine how it feels to not be accepted by todays society... oh wait, what am I saying... it seems none of us are accepted, but you all especially so.

Leto: Not much a problem, really.

Do you get lonely?
Of course, Don't you?
How long does it take to cycle through ''persons''?
We shift when people want to .. sometimes things outside cause different people to take over the shell to handle something, but that is rare.. mostly we're all hanging out .. for minutes, sometimes days.. depends on lots of factors

If you are so fascinated with our world, why don't you try to be born in this one? You're assuming that I'm, any of us, is only here to .. conserve space? without more context it is difficult to answer.
Is it easier to inhabit another person's body? The souls that inhabit this shell share responsibility and ownership of the shell.. so who is to say whom the original owners were or were not.?

Can you travel astrally to someone else's body?no more or less so than anyone else.. I suppose

Are there certain chosen ones for this task or do you choose by random?what task?

When you become 'someone else' do you know what's happening? Are you the one speaking or is your body taken over as if you were watching a movie... or do you just black out?
We don't become someone else.. the person in control of the shell changes.. ok.. really bad analogy, but basically like a different player on a computer/playstation game.. same game, but the way they react/interact with the game can change drastically.

Do you think crimes committed while you are another person are your responsibility? We share responsibility, if anyone commits a crime while in control of the body, then we are all guilty of failure to prevent that action.. so yes, we would all be accountable.

How many multiples have you seen in a single body?
seen? a couple hundred.. heard about.. around 1000+

I noticed on AstreaWeb that you have a list of books... they're more funny than anything...
are there any actual good books you can recommend? Are there any books written by actual multiples themselves?

I'll probably catch nine kinds of hades, but we liked "set this house in order" by Matt Ruff.. I believe was the author's name. we like how one character explains the current idea of integration vs healthy multiplicity as being like a broken vase.. integration theory believes that you can just stick all the pieces back together and have a "perfect" whole, which we stringently disagree with, much like the character, souls aren't like broken pottery we grow, evolve and change..

What do you think of the book series K-Pax (also was turned into a movie)
never read it or saw it

From the sites I've been reading, it seems many of you are upset that you are mislabled and misunderstood..
besides doing websites, why don't you try to do something about it? I can't imagine how it feels to not be accepted by todays society... oh wait, what am I saying... it seems none of us are accepted, but you all especially so.

Right now, websites are the best things we can do.. getting the information out there for whomever is willing to look..it may take a thousand years (godess I hope not) but hopefully eventually it'll get to the place where it's easier to be open in public about being plural. (Though we are fairly open about being many souls, we still worry about the consequences because of our career)

Do you get lonely?
Yeah, of course. Especially those of us that front a lot, we crave outside company. People who live totally inside don't as much. But I mean, there's all sorts of different lonely. You can be lonely in a crowd. Or lonely to see different people instead of the ones you spend time with all the time anyway.

How long does it take to cycle through ''persons''?
We don't cycle.

If you are so fascinated with our world, why don't you try to be born in this one?
We were born in this one.

Is it easier to inhabit another person's body?
Dunno, none of us have ever inhabited another person's body. We've only ever inhabited this one, which belongs to all of us equally.

Can you travel astrally to someone else's body?
Nope.

Are there certain chosen ones for this task or do you choose by random?
What task? We don't have chosen ones for any tasks, but there are people who are more likely to do some things than others.

When you become 'someone else' do you know what's happening? Are you the one speaking or is your body taken over as if you were watching a movie... or do you just black out?
I never become someone else. Who is fronting changes, and then things just depend. If I'm still up front, it's like looking out a window. If I'm not there, then I'm not there, but can catch up from the collective memory later.

Do you think crimes commited while you are another person are your responsibility?
First off, I'm never another person. Second, we have a pact to all be responsible for eachothers actions when it comes to things like that.

How many multiples have you seen in a single body?
Well, it's perfectly possible to have systems within systems. If you mean how many people have we seen in a single body, we've only ever seen those of our own system in this body. We don't really bother to keep count. I think there may be about 100 of us, but not all of us regularly, or ever, front.

I noticed on AstreaWeb that you have a list of books... they're more funny than anything...
are there any actual good books you can reccomend? Are there any books written by actual multiples themselves?

Dunno, haven't really read any books about multiplicity.

What do you think of the book series K-Pax (also was turned into a movie)
Never heard of the book series, but a movie called K-Pax rings a bell. Never saw it, but I thought it was about an alien, not about multiplicity.

Interesting question. A lot of us are interested in activism. It would be wonderful to be able to start a movement besides just websites for multiples, but it's tricky. I don't care if people know that I'm bisexual, pro-choice, for animal rights, or think that Bush is a shitty president. I'm not afraid to stand out in public and voice those opinions. I'm not going to get fired or locked up for it, and I'm not really risking loosing any friends over those opinions. However, to openly come out and say we're multiple is not something that is safe enough to do offline. Plus, I doubt it'd be easy to find enough other multiples in the area to make a local advocacy group. I think the best way to start though, is letter writing and webpages. If you see stereotypes in the media, contact them and educate them. If you hear people talking about it who're way off base, try to correct them (sometimes we use the "well I have a friend who is..." excuse).

These will also appear in our FAQ (http://www.astraeasweb.net/plural/faq.shtml).

"Do you get lonely?" Collectively? No. We don't necessarily depend on having other physical persons around all the time. We do, after all, have one another... we are real presences to each other, so you might say we have never been alone in our lives. In fact, it's rather restful to be physically alone. Physical privacy is valued by us. On the other hand, we cherish our friends deeply, and we are in a committed relationship. It means a great deal to us to know that our significant other (who is also plural) is there.

"How long does it take to cycle through 'persons'?" Take the quotation marks from around "persons", and we'll like it even better. In this group, we employ a good deal of co-running and co-presence (http://www.astraeasweb.net/plural/glossary.html) -- two or more people sharing the body or watching what is going on at the front. Under these circumstances, an actual change from one main frontrunner to another may be a matter of a second or two. If the person who comes up front next is further away from the front at the time, there may be some time lapse. No one observing us would notice a thing.

"If you are so fascinated with our world, why don't you try to be born in this one? Is it easier to inhabit another person's body?" Assuming this was directed at gateway systems: Not all gateway systems come into being because the inhabitants are "fascinated" with the earth world. That is a concept straight out of Genesis 6 by way of Theosophy and Edgar Cayce, and much beloved by writers of comic books and a handful of authors such as Tanith Lee, but it is not true of all gateway systems, let alone all multiples in general.

Origins for gateway systems vary. We have no idea why we are in our present situation, using a shared body in what is, to us, a foreign world. There are some groups where the others were invited in by an original person, (cf. Stardance : Shaytar (http://www.bentspoons.com/Shaytar/)), but not all systems have an original person. We are not inhabiting someone else's body; it is cooperatively owned and operated by the group as a whole.

"Can you travel astrally to someone else's body?" We have no experience with astral projection or astral travel of any kind. However, we believe this question actually refers to the idea that a person or persons living in one body can travel from their own subjective reality to visit the worlds of others. See the section on other worlds in our FAQ (http://www.astraeasweb.net/plural/faq.shtml#worlds) for details.

"Are there certain chosen ones for this task or do you choose by random?" We're interpreting this question to mean can we specifically ask people to become frontrunners or if anyone can come up front. In our case, anyone can come up front, and we have little or no control over who takes the body. Instead, we have protocols in place so that those who wish to front are automatically briefed, so there is no "memory loss" or "time loss" (actually continuity loss). Other groups have other ways of managing frontrunners and front time. Some have a setup like a business, with offices and departments and people fronting in shifts. We know two groups who even employ temps.

"When you become 'someone else' do you know what's happening? Are you the one speaking or is your body taken over as if you were watching a movie... or do you just black out?" We do not become each other, so here we assume that you mean "when another person takes the front". Different groups, of course, report different experiences. Chris Costner-Sizemore (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chris_Costner-Sizemore) (best known for Three Faces of Eve (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Three_Faces_of_Eve) although that's a gross misportrayal of her life) blanked out to the point that she sometimes feared she might disappear or die. We don't have that, and it's one reason we did not believe for years that "multiple personality" could describe our experience.

As we don't have a main person or main front (some groups do - ask), it is not any one person's body but is shared. The "watching a movie" effect occurs, for us, when someone is co-present and the data recorder for some reason picks up the perspective of the co-present person rather than the actual frontrunner (person using the body). The frontrunner is the one speaking and identifies as him- or herself. He or she may relay messages from other people who are not at front. ("Gabe says don't forget to take out the trash") There is no blackout, and we rarely have the sensation that the body is being "taken over" by the next frontrunner.

We have more about our personal experience being multiple at:
http://www.astraeasweb.net/plural/faq.shtml#experience

"Do you think crimes commited while you are another person are your responsibility?" "While you are another person" undoubtedly was meant as "while someone other than yourself is fronting". Any action taken by a group member is his or her own responsibility and that person should bear the consequences (or take the credit if something good). However, because that person is also a member of a multiple system, any action which affects the entire group is the entire group's responsibility as well as that particular individual's. It is a complicated issue, but the short answer to your question is yes. Many groups make pacts like the In Essence pledge (http://www.astraeasweb.net/plural/inessence.html) declaring responsibility for their own and one another's actions. See also our Legal Issues section (http://www.astraeasweb.net/plural/legal.html).

"How many multiples have you seen in a single body?" By "multiples" you probably mean persons. We've known several gateway systems, two with connections to several inhabited planets or dimensions, but we have not actually met every single person in those groups. So.. theoretically, several billion. Frontrunning? Perhaps thirty.

"I noticed on AstreaWeb that you have a list of books... they're more funny than anything... are there any actual good books you can reccomend? Are there any books written by actual multiples themselves?" The booklist speaks for itself, and we're glad you find it funny. Not a whole lot of people have complimented us on our booklist's humor. The booklist was mostly compiled by Iris Nicholes, with help from Andy Temple, Gabe Ragland, and yours truly Jay Young. We tried to make it clear which books were written by multiples and which by doctors or novelists. We can honestly say, at this time, that we don't recommend any of them in particular with the possible exception of This Alien Shore and When Rabbit Howls (although read our review on that one (http://www.astraeasweb.net/plural/rabbithowls.html). By the way, it's Astraea. ;)

"What do you think of the book series K-Pax (also was turned into a movie)"
We reviewed it here. (http://www.karitas.net/pavilion/library/articles/m_review_ast-kpax1101.html) Another review here (http://www.karitas.net/pavilion/library/articles/m_review_hon-kpax1101.html). Do you get lonely?
I'm not sure if we get 'lonely' in the "Oh no, I'm not part of a pack" sense, but we do feel a need to exchange ideas with people outside the group.

How long does it take to cycle through ''persons''?
Like others, we'll assume that this means 'How long does it take to switch frontrunners?'. Generally, a couple of seconds, or less. Sometimes more, if Kat is really glued out there.

If you are so fascinated with our world, why don't you try to be born in this one? Is it easier to inhabit another person's body?
Who said I find 'your world' even remotely interesting? It happens that I do, but it also happens that I didn't have any choice in whether to be here, or whether I'd share a body with my brainmates, or any of the rest of that.

Can you travel astrally to someone else's body?
No. I've never tried, and I doubt it's possible.

Are there certain chosen ones for this task or do you choose by random?
Choosing to interpret this question as 'Do you choose who runs the bodies' (external) life?' Answer's 'no'. Kat does most of the frontrunning, because she seems to be bungee-corded out there. It takes effort for me to stay up to type this, but it'd be effortless for her. Because of this, she deals with most of the daily living garbage, and has more of a say in decision-making.

When you become 'someone else' do you know what's happening? Are you the one speaking or is your body taken over as if you were watching a movie... or do you just black out?
I don't 'become someone else'. There's me: I have different sides to my personality which fold & unfold as circumstances require, like complicated origami. There's Kat & Es, who have much the same thing going on, but their shapes are quite different from mine, and we could never become eachother.

When someone else takes over at the front, it tends to feel like I'm at one remove from whatever's happening. After all, even though the body is moving around, it's not my will doing it, so I don't need to pay attention. We don't black out, though the memories of the person who fronted for a given event are always strongest for that person.

Do you think crimes commited while you are another person are your responsibility?
Interpreting this as 'If one of your brainmates committed a crime, do you think of it as your responsibility?' Yes; we've decided to share credit & responsibility for external actions of the body. Internal actions, on the other hand, are our own individually. If Es (to take the least likely example) were to somehow fail to respect my boundaries, responsibility for the matter would fall between me and her, and not involve Kat (unless she wanted to become involved, nosy as she is ;)).

How many multiples have you seen in a single body?
One of our friends is part of a system of twelve-ish people. Other people have corrected your terminology enough on this one, I suspect.

I noticed on AstreaWeb that you have a list of books... they're more funny than anything...
are there any actual good books you can reccomend? Are there any books written by actual multiples themselves?

Not answering this, since we're not familiar with the book list.

What do you think of the book series K-Pax (also was turned into a movie)
No comment; we have too many things that one or the other(s) of us want to do to waste much time on passive entertainment.

People are responsible to maintain as much sanity as they can grab. At the moment, we choose not to extend our reach beyond our circle of friends - the ones we've told have been quite supportive.
