Bipolar? Lamictal?
Jun. 17th, 2006 02:10 amI have started a new medication for my bipolar. Anyone else on here ever taken Lamictal? My biggest concern with any new medication is that it will interfere with the nicely functioning system I've spent the past four years creating. I've always been a bit paranoid . . . but I need to know now if anyone thinks there might be a conflict here. . . .
I checked out every website I can find, but I can't find anything with this particular problem. I suspect that having a rare, commonly mis-diagnosed disorder, AND being multiple, AND not trying to become a singleton, AND trying a medication that's only been treating the disorder for three years is pretty, well . . . rare. I can't find any data on this, and I honestly don't think anyone's done a study or anything, (and sad to say, if some psych-doctor found out that this drug made singletons out of multiples, they'd be prescribing it to all of us. *sigh* stupid doctors! I wish there was a pill that would make multiples out of singletons, but that's a topic for another rant, lol.)

Date: 2006-06-17 01:56 pm (UTC)sorry, I really wish I could have helped you. Good luck. I don't think meds could affect your system, anyway, in a way that you'd "turn" into a singleton, because even if I was in an altered state of mind, it was still *me plus them* not *me the singleton*, but perhaps that is just me thinking of no-effects.

Date: 2006-06-17 02:26 pm (UTC)I don't think this medication could make me a singleton, that's just my biggest fear with any new medication--that the medication will mess with the delicate communication system, that suddenly I'll lose all contact with the other "people" in my head, that this is really all a plot to "normalize" me in ways I don't want to be normalized. Maybe I'm being paranoid, but I've been forced onto medication before that was dangerous for me, and forced to continue taking it in spite of it's poisoning my brain.

Date: 2006-06-17 03:55 pm (UTC)The other people I know who have taken Lamictal have had really good experiences with it.
I have gone back to simple lithium as it seems to be the best for me with no side effects.
I hope you find something that works well for you:)

Date: 2006-06-17 05:12 pm (UTC)bipolar, BPD and epilepsy. One thing to watch out for is a rash that effects your
mouth eyes or mucous membranes - this is a rare but dangerous side effect. If you
get a rash of any sort do not delay in reporting it to your Dr.
I have a friend who has BPD and takes it and she likes it very much.

Date: 2006-06-17 09:51 pm (UTC)I checked that site all over when I was prescribed Paxil for anxiety/panic disorder, it was very helpful. For the 3.5 weeks I've been taking it (at 10mg/day) it hasn't done anything to my system, but it's been countering my externally-induced anxiety quite nicely starting about 4 days ago. I know it's an entirely different class of meds, but I'm hoping that will be reassuring. n.n
