no :) we made a list of all the people in here and a few statements about them for our last therapist so she could get to know us better, but it was either our suggestion or a joint request i think

it would make me nervous if someone asked me to make a list of their positive traits, i think, like i would think they were going to be all "well see, if you integrate, you can have all that! now do it!" but i can see how it would be helpful in like getting to know and accept people maybe.

My shrink made Me do that once, but since she didn't know We were "We" at the time (in for the bipolar, major depressive disorder, etc at the time), it was focused on just Me.

How come you capitalize "Me" and "We"?

Ever read any LaVey? The guy was out to lunch, but he had some good points.

was one of his points that pronouns should be capitalized or something?

Sort of. You should check out some of his work.

Well, hmm... Here's what my first thought about that is: A lot of people, when they first find out they're multiple (whether on their own or in therapy) tend to wig out and think it's something horrible, that their life is necessarily going to be hell on account of it, that, you know, oh my god there are other people in my head with me, what are they thinking, will they try to destroy my life? Because that's what's always on TV, you know, on Geraldo and Oprah.

So it -could- be that your shrink is trying to get you to look at it from the perspective of... these people aren't necessarily bad; they have good qualities, things you'd appreciate in friends or family members (which is what hopefully you'll come to think of them as in time), things that could be helpful to you and to the whole group.

But then again, I can't say for sure. It -could- be, as someone else pointed out, what s/he thinks is a prelude to integration, but from my (admittedly biased) viewpoint, I'd see it as a decent exercise for coming to terms with the othes.

kind of, the therapist we had a long time ago asked ludy about the positve traits of those of us that she didn't get on with (like me, at the time) to help with making more of a comuinty and getting on together. He didn't bother asking about the ones she was ok with becos she would already say lots of postive stuff about them.
We definatly all get on better now, maybe that was part of it.

I remember my therapist trying to get me to make a map of my personalities. My therapist did try to get me to be aware of the helpful aspects of my other people. Some of the helpful aspects weren't always nice, like personalities that were more willing to be angry than other personalities. It was useful to know personalities were authentically upset for appropriate reasons. I am thankful for the personalities that pay bills, put in the food order, help other humans, bring imagination and beauty into my life...
