Hi Its me Toni and Shelby and Jade and Elaine here,

We have a question. We thought if we were writing in our own personal journals we could write as much as we wanted and use whatever fonts and not worry about Lj cuts. Now I am confused if something from our personal journal we just wrote made a problem for the commuity, I am sorry but I thought it was kinda personal so went into Outlook and got creative with the text and copied it into the journal. I didnet know we had to do Lj cuts in our personal journal! Do we? Or should we lock private when we want to write like about are day and have allot to say? Thanks the mosaics

If people have a problem with how your personal journal is written, that's their problem. You can write however you please in it.

And how would that work, exactly?

Look, your personal journal is just that--your personal space. You pull the high-gloss crappy font and no LJ-cutting of stuph here, I will do my very best to politely kick your ass six ways to Tuesday. But you haven't done that here. Nothing that happens on your personal journal should affect what happens here--unless someone writes an article concerning your journal, or you copy/paste something that's overly long and badly formatted into here.

So far--other than you guys being confusing, and maybe grovelling more than you should--everything's fine as far as I'm concerned.

No problem. :)

Just remember--it's your journal, your rules apply there. You can take advice from people, but you guys run the show--at least there.

Not a problem.

I see what made you post this.

Forget about that comment on your journal. YOUR space, YOU do what you damn well please with it.

On the communities, a Mod can ask you to LJ cut and make the font small or whatever they want.

No problems.

I miss my mom because she baked for christmas every year and the house always smelled good like anise and amereto and licorish.

Someone once asked me, personally, what I thought was the best thing about being plural and I immediately replied "My sister's cooking."

Especially this time of year. Oh my goodness.

Inside sister I assume :) Dad and Chris are still arguing other whether we can open presents on Litha. I think we're going to make pancakes, at least. Dunno why pancakes, but apparently the Tribes eat pancakes on midsummer, so... pancakes. *shrug* It's bread in Autumn Harvest though, I'm looking forward to that. Bread and grape juice or wine.

People who have friended your personal journal(s) might complain if you make, say, a long post that's not behind a cut, but that's mostly their problem. You're not particularly obligated to listen to any of them.

*points to what [livejournal.com profile] bluegodjanus said*

Although I would advise you to friendslock your personal livejournal due to the extremely sensitive nature of some of the things you talk about like the court case et al.

Like the others said, your journal is your space. Some people may ask you to use an lj-cut for certain topics in your personal journal (for example, if you post a graphic description of abuse and they found it triggery), but it's still your personal journal so the ultimate decision is up to you. It's also considered polite to use an lj-cut before very wide images that would cause a person to have to scroll left and right to read anything on their friends page, or for memes (many online quizes contain bad HTML which would ruin someone else's journal style while your post is on the page) or for an image that is considered to be not work safe (anything that would get someone fired if their boss walked in while they were reading their friends page). But again, this is all just considered "polite". Your journal is your own space. If you want something to be read by the public, mark it public. If you want something to be read only by those on your friends page, mark it friends only. If you want something to be read only by your system, mark it private.

No problem. :)

The way to do an image is this:

<img src="http://www.website.com/yourpicture.jpg">. You just paste that code into your entry. In order for it to work, you have to replace http://www.website.com/yourpicture.jpg with the URL of a picture that is uploaded onto the web (it can't just be in your computer). The usual method of finding the URL of an image is to right mouse click on the image and click something like "copy the url of the picture" or something, I don't have an English browser to hand so I can't tell you exactly what it'll say. I think in Internet Explorer it might say something about a shortcut or something. Anyway, once you've figure out which option is involved, just type Ctrl V (hold down both keys at the same time) and it will paste the URL into your entry. Then just type the rest of the code around it and you're all set.

(oh, and this method will only work if you aren't using rich text mode (the what you see is what you get mode). If you're using rich text mode, just click on one of the buttons, the one with a picture of someone's face and paste the URL there.)

if it still doesn't work, then the image is probably uploaded to a place that doesn't allow remote loading (meaning that image can only show up on the original website it was posted on, not on LiveJournal.) in that case, you'll have to find another image, unless you have your own server or some place to upload something to. If you pay for a paid accout with LiveJournal, you can always use Scrapbook too which is very easy. It lets you upload pictures from your computer (or somewhere on the web) to your LJ and then post them in your journal.

Don't worry about clicking around and experimenting with the buttons on the rich text page. You can't break it. The only things I can think of off the top of my head that you can't undo are: deleting posts (by pressing a button that says "delete this post" or whatever the english version is), deleting comments (clicking the x shaped thing), deleting part of your post with backspace and then saving that, and you can't edit comments. Otherwise, you can pretty much experiment with anything. if you accidentally delete your entire journal, you can undelete it easily (with nothing lost).

There's also the FAQs: http://www.livejournal.com/support/faq.bml. There are al ot of them, but if you have spare time they usually have step by step explanations of how to do what. This FAQ has some quick answers to some quick questinos: http://www.livejournal.com/support/faqbrowse.bml?faqid=207

And you can search the FAQs for what you think might be keywords: http://www.livejournal.com/support/faqsearch.bml.

So if you want to learn about deleting comments or something, you just type deleting in there and it takes you to a page like this http://www.livejournal.com/support/faqsearch.bml?q=deleting&lang=en_LJ. That makes it easier to find which FAQ you're looking for.

Yes, your journal is your own space, you can write what and how you want, and if people don't like it, they don't have to read it.

That said, note that public posts are exactly that - public - and may be read by anyone who's got Internet access. If you post comments to other Lj users or communities, you can expect that people will then go to your journal to check out who you are. If there's personal things you'd really rather not have some random troll use to try and hurt or discredit you, don't write about them in public posts.

Sometimes people will get annoyed if you make a massively long post, or a post with a lot of pictures, or just a big picture. They're of course entirely justified in saying "look I don't like that"

You're also entirely justified in saying "Sorry, but I want to," even if I or they may not agree with you saying so.

None of it should cause problems in this community.

"Well pictures nobody has to worry about yet we have tried copying and pasting to no avail, and tried using the URL for images and that does not work for us either">

You need the HTML tag <img src> to make it work - like this:
<img src="http://bwr.hyperchat.com/newchat/u/jessadriel/~bwr/ArcherJ2.jpg">

...which comes out to:
Image

Note that quite a few people are likely to have problems with your posting images that are uploaded to their servers - "stealing bandwidth", that's called. The polite thing is to save the image to your own computer, upload it to your own server, and then post it.

Also, in our personal livejournal, we use the Scrapbook feature. Livejournal gives you some web space to upload pictures to your Livejournal account. There is a link saying "Scrapbook" at the top (or side -- wherever you see all the links like My LJ, Journal, Manage, Help, etc.) of regular Livejournal pages.

http://pics.livejournal.com/ksol1460/ Exempli gratia, as Andy would say.
