This should be interesting...
Sep. 30th, 2005 08:41 pmThis Sunday on 60 minutes, they're going to have a report over someone that's multiple. This should be intersting. I'm going to bring it up with others and see how they respond. It'll either help us come out easier or be like most media coverage and make it even more bizarre.
From the website:
A FRACTURED MIND - Robert Oxnam, an accomplished scholar, says he knows he sounds like a "raving lunatic" when he discusses the many personalities he says are inside him. Morley Safer reports on the controversial illness called multiple personality disorder. David Browning is the producer.

Date: 2005-10-01 04:06 am (UTC)In other news, I was kind of amused to see this here since I'd just been fiddling around on the EBSCO search engine earlier and turned up a reference to him and his book. Bit of a deja vu sensation.

Date: 2005-10-01 05:01 pm (UTC)many people believe that 'Personality' suggests a single side of one person, which is not the case;
also, many people believe (correctly) that 'Disorder' suggests an inability to function successfully in society.
Some people ignore these points and use it as a general term anyway. I think that MPD is rarely used disrespectfully, but if one wants to be 100% politically correct, one should use 'multiple' or 'plural'.

He often accompanies prominent Americans -- such as Bill Gates, Warren Buffett, former President George H. W. Bush and Barbara Bush -- as they seek in-depth, first hand knowledge of China. He was president of the Asia Society for over a decade, which has headquarters in New York, across the U.S., and throughout the Asia-Pacific region. He has hosted MacNeil/Lehrer NewsHour specials on Asia. He lives in New York with his wife Vishakha Desai."

and I can't find any reference to it; a search on "multiple personalities" turned up zilch. Ed Bradley is reporting on abstinence programmes for teens this week. I'll find as much as I can.
