I was in a chatroom before and I mentioned that I needed to fix a seam in my skirt... so I went and got my skirt and needle and thread and everything... they couldn't believe I was actually handsewing it. I told them my aunt taught me how and I don't have a sewing machine. The outside mother does, but I don't know how to use it. That's just how we do stuff inside. One of the Americans wanted to ship me a shirt he has that needs a button sewn on, he said the cost would be worth it because he doesn't want to do it himself.

In frontier days men always knew how to sew buttons on & darn their socks. My brother is better at mending some things by hand than I am. I have a Singer that looks a little bit like this. http://www.needlebar.com/singdecs/9a/index.html

LMAO. Tell him it's $15 a pop (or a button) and see if he's still keen. If he is, hey! Go for it!

Geeze... even I can handsew something if I need to. I usually make my dad do it, though. XD

we can't sew by hand, our hand seams end up looking like a mess. we use sewing machines a bit better except for skit - she broke the machine. :(

Ummmm.... people don't know how to mend a seam or sew on a button?!? That really comes under the heading of "basic skills one ought to have by age 10" (if not indeed by 6), like how to fix a decent meal, how to run the washing machine, how to clean a room. Unless one's got difficulties with eye/hand coordination, it's pretty easy to learn how to do simple hand-sewing.

I can run a sewing machine, but I've often had trouble with the threading, and I really do prefer to hand-sew. I used to embroider quite a bit, but haven't done it lately. Kír says he knows how to sew, but he's had no need to do it (LOL, which is his polite way of saying it's my job because I'm the girl.) I think Crist-Erui may also know how, but I can't recall him ever doing it - he's very good with braids and knotwork, though.
