I just read it. And it's crap.

"My mommy pretended to have other people in her head so much, she said it really feels like they're real!"

"My mommy has 26 'alters'"..

The saddest thing about that piece of hog shit is that it's supposed to be written by a multiple mother. If the damned woman was multiple, do you not think she'd try and DISPELL the rumors and myths instead of enforcing them? For the love of Pete, she has us sounding like we're all making them up! I swear, that slug woman better watch it or someone will pour salt all over her and rid her from our ranks.

She's not going to try to dispell them if she believes that they are true. There lies the problem when it comes to dispelling rumors and myths. While you work to dispell them, they'll be spread by those who still believe them.

But she claims to be a multiple is encouraging the stereo-types, is she not? It's horrible and makes us all look like suicidal maniacs. She should be smacked for this atrocity!

Buying into it

Lots of multiples believe the hype, too. Some were never taught that it could be different. Others prefer the perks that the steriotype provides. Others just can't believe that things can be different, and actively ignore information that points in that direction.

I truly pity those sorts. But I suppose if they don't want to know their ass from their elbow, it's fine. I apologize for the foul mouth, it's just pisspoor when some make us all look quite insane.

Personally, I will never be having children. It's a firm resolve and allathat. I will never have to explain to my own child. But when I've explained it to my friend's kids, they all get miffed if they don't get talked to like adults. But then one of the kids comes out and explains it in kid terms and bingo. Problem solved.

No, you're not wrong. I don't think children can grasp the intensity of it all and they would, most likely, misunderstand. They shouldn't be told until much later, if at all.

Anywho..

I disagree with this.

Kids never appreciate having things kept from them.

Especially during the "Angry At The World" phase that comes at around 12 years old.

Your child might feel like you don't trust him, or worse, when it's such a shock to them, they might react in an irresponsible way.

I think growing up knowing something makes it easier to accept.

Even if you don't tell your child about yourself, you should at least tell him about multiplicity, maybe about plural friends you have, so that they grow up comfortable with the idea of it, and accepting of people who are multiple.

You can just download it, so you don't have to pay for it if you don't want to. We read it to see what the fuss was about it. I wasn't impressed, nor do I think she was. I don't even know if we still have a copy, or if we scrapped it despite it being a free e-book.

I downloaded it just now. It's horrible. "The problem with MPD is that the alters my mom made up to protect herself still seem real to her now, even though the danger is over."
There's also constant talk of hurting herself and constantly going in the hospital.

Here's the best review of "My Mom Is Different" we have found so far.
