Gollum

I finally saw The Two Towers. Very very very well done. One thing very much upset me, and it wasn't with the movie, it was with the audience. They laughed at Gollum when his mean personality was tormenting him and telling him how awful he was. Cyndi is often nasty to us in the same way. I couldn't believe they thought it was funny. I very much identify with Gollum. He is broken and different. He is tormented by himself and by others. He is the freak. The outcast amongst outcast. I took it quite personally when the audience made fun of him.

Got to agree -- that was scary. And it seems to be the standard reaction. People laugh. ::shudder:: It makes one wonder about them.

I saw the Two Towers the other day and thought it was excellent, but i heard 2 women in the toilets referring to the "funny little thing". I felt they missed the point somehow.....
On the other hand, the way it was presented, did encourage that type of response, and plus, well, you know what people are like: "I don't understand....oh, I'll giggle because i don't know what else to do!"
Perhaps it was intended to be bittersweet - if we don't laugh a little, we cry.

when i saw it people only laughed at gollum when he put his hands over his ears and said "not listening", which was kind of funny. It felt like they were only laughing at that, not at his personalities fighting or at the whole idea of him having two personalities. So that seemed ok to me, but i don't know if that was unusual audence somehow.

Some people who know Us can spot differences between Myself, Ray, Floyd and Larry. Jake is obvious because of his accent (you know Gomer Pyle?), and Margaux sticks out like a sore thumb.

Floyd is described as a "serial killer" because he's STIFF and shows almost no emotion. Internally, he's pretty much a terminator, so go figure.

Ray is an annoying bastard teenager. He needs a good, sound beating. One time he actually tried to burn My coworkers a new one for expecting him to work.

Larry (also known as Masterboy -- long story) is "a lot easier on the body and smiles more." He also talks like a bloody surfer when he doesn't have to "be" Me.

Margaux is kinda' like a really effeminate version of John Lithgow's character in Garp. For obvious reasons, she doesn't surface much except at home. I think she'd drag Yoda or God up front before she willingly surfaced in public outside a gay bar or similar place where nobody would judge.
