I have a silly question, and forgive me if it is awkward or scattered, but I am curious. I am part of Raziel system and only recently have had cause to front, to begin my own spiritual path. When I do front, however, I find it is sometimes difficult to manage the body. I myself am very poised and upright, but this body has been subjected to horrible posture for the longest time. Also, I find I lose balance on occassion. I was just wondering if any other's have had such or similliar experiences, and if so is it possible to mold the body into my mannerisms? I do hope I'm not being a bother, or posting inadequate questions. Thank you.

Sincerely,
~Rya

Well... if you're working a spiritual path, you could include something like yoga, Tai Chi, Pilates, zazen, sacred dance... there are lots of different systems designed to correct posture, balance and breathing, since Spirit flows best through an unclogged, un-kinked conduit.

My posture's not always the best, and my balance is uncertain at times, partly because I've got visual anomalies that make it hard to judge distance and angles at times. Crist-Erui 'fronts' as much as me; his posture's excellent and his balance and coordination are far better than mine. (LOL, he can't dance with a partner to save his life, though - I don't think he *gets* the basic concept of partnered dancing.) Kír sits and stands very straight, but too stiff and too still - he's working on that, though, and making good progress in gaining more freedom of movement.

We've got a Yoga Ball (http://wailana.com/yogastore/product.php?pcode=GMP+151&PID=CJ), and the thing is just great - they come with a book of exercises; once those get too easy, there's a book, Pilates On The Ball (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0892819812/103-3791501-7592645?v=glance), which has a workout regimen more effective than anything one could find in a gym. I totally recommend it for correcting posture or balance problems without injuring or embarrassing oneself.

Good luck, and have fun!

Hello Rya.
I've had that exact same problem for some time. It is getting better now, so don't dispair-- I think it's just practice. It's so strange for me, getting used to this huge body. My posture is also quite excellent, and my manners refined, which is anything but like our "frontrunner." The first few times I came out . . . wow. Those were tough. But really, it's gotten so much better with time.

Best of luck.

The above are all good ideas. Also, I wonder if just fronting a lot. Also, do you guys have a good chiropractor?

It depends on whether the bad posture is due to habit or due to abnormal spine shape. In our case, the body's spine was abnormally curved after 10+ years of bad posture, and no one had ever thought to take us to a doctor about it-- they all just thought we were too lazy to stand up straight. Even when people who ordinarily stood up very straight were fronting, the upper part of our back was still curved. We're working on it now with yoga and other exercises, but things like this take a while to fix-- the muscles need to get used to working in a different way.

Losing balance-- well, balance is something which can be developed, although there are many factors to it. You may want to get your inner ear checked out, since that can affect balance and coordination. It probably is possible to 'mold' the body, or condition it, so that it can move and stand more like you, but again, this isn't something which can be done overnight-- the body needs some time to get used to doing things it's never done before or hasn't done in a long time.

My experience is that a lot of systems have problems with people not being able to make the body do what they want or what they're used to. The scads of trashy dime-store "true stories" which imply that people in systems are somehow capable of doing anything they want with the body just because they "believe they can" did us no favours, and caused many systems to doubt their own reality and some to jeopardise their health and safety. It is true that "inexplicable" things do happen sometimes, but on the whole, encouraging people to attempts things which are beyond their (current) physical means, ignore illnesses, injuries or chronic health conditions, or discontinue treatment for same, because "the mind can do anything it wants," is a recipe for trouble. But... yeah, you're not alone.

lol! im like, 5' internally, and 6'2" externally, and balance is an issue all the time. it also messes with me to 'loom' over people, so i like to sit when i can. And do what ya gotta do, unless you want back problems from poor posture down the road (i once held a town meeting and demonstrated the use of soap)

A good chiropractor will explain exactly what he or she does. It's not that scary. We used to have one who was also a naturopath and gave vitamin prescriptions and good ideas for exercises. Maybe something like that.
