here's a fun one for you. I'm trying to think of a way to 'connote' being multiple to someone. basically something that lets someone know your split, that they'll understand if they also are split, or possibly if they're split-educated. but is somehow retractable to a singlette otherwise.
like, you're at a party and wanna see if you've got someone that understands it, but you dont feel like 'coming out' to them otherwise.

*over loud noisy crouded room*
-There's really more than one of me.
-What?! I can't hear you!
-There's really more than one of me!!

And if they then freak out you come out with:
-No! Hahahaha! I said, 'Do you think they're making fun of me?' *points to two loud conversation-people.

I guess you would have to invent some sort of symbol and make it known to the public. Kinda like the rainbow or pink triangle for gay people.

Or you could wear a t-shirt stating "I AM A MULITPLE!" lol.

most straight people, from what i've observed, have no idea what those symbols mean even today.

Saying something like "I've got a lot of internal argument over it" instead of "I can't make up my mind", "Depends on the state of mind I'm in" or my fav right now "yeah, my inner child did my hair today"

Several of us have the entertaining habit of being completely honest about how there's something wrinkly within reach while never mentioning the elephant standing in front of us.

MUC code T-shirts! Tehe :) Might get a few strange looks though :P

I put MUC code at the end of my email, was able to use it as a springboard to tell a curious friend.

"Yeah, I know I changed a lot since I was the other me..." (if they knew you when that "other me" was fronting)

"Today I'm fifteen years old; don't expect me to understand everything about those hobbies I'm supposed to have developed since that time."

(about having kid stuff still lying around) "I'd like to get rid of this, it takes up too much space; but whenever I start to seriously think of doing it I get this whole internal protest business."

"I realize you expect me to be witty and obsessed with Star Wars, but I'm in another mode/mental configuration right now."

"I have this debate with my inner child about taking a pet."

"You know about John, the guy I'm supposed to be writing about? Well, yesterday he told me my story sucked/wasn't true, so maybe I won't bother." (if the ^person is/was also a soulbond)

like the other people up there, you could refer to your "inner child" or even other things like "inner hippie", or whatever the other members of your system might slightly identify with, sprinkled throughout the conversation.. if the person you're talking to knows about multiplicity they would probably be provoked to ask you, but if they weren't, they'd just think you really liked the term! :D

I don't know if I'd be comfortable asking somebody.

i would! hahaha

of course if i misinterpreted i'd have to go explain...
but then again, i'm a singlet, and that explanation wouldn't involve me having to come out to them, huh..
good point. i don't know if there IS a simple way to come out subtley.

Ummm... y'know, something to keep in mind here: not all multiples are "splits". There's this pervasive assumption that everybody sharing a single body is really one person who 'changes modes' - that all but one "live inside the head" of the "host" or "core".

If some people want to describe their experiences that way, that's their choice, but it sure isn't accurate for everybody.

Agreed..I like to see it as more than one soul in a body, everybody is equal and the only reason a term such as "host" or "core" is used is because it is an easy way to describe the person who tends to take the leading role in the day-to-day activities

Hmmm... I'm not sure about the whole 'soul' thing - Kír sometimes says that he and Crist-Erui are one soul, and were one soul even when they had two separate bodies. All that seems to get into the area of religious debate, which is an area I'd rather stay out of just at present.

We don't have just one person who takes the leading role in day-to-day activities - it all depends on what we're doing.

Fair enough, that is just the easiest way for me to look at things:)

And I agree about the religious debate part..that always ends up getting nasty!
