in this post, someone made a reference to different "styles" of system, which raises the question, of what categories of systems exist, what do they cover, and ... are they relevant as a categorisation system?

* may not be making sense, is still recovering from having lots of blood drained again *

* starts the spellchecker, so the words are readable , even if the sentence isn't or at least try *

* retry : accidentally posted to wrong journal - attempting to correct *

Hmm. I think there are all sorts of different types and styles.

Classic, disordered, not disordered, empowered, split, fragmented, median, mid-continuum, gateway, and probably lots of others. And also a few combinations of the above as well. Some of these may mean the same thing, some are slightly different, and everything in between.

I do not think there is any system of categorization, nor do I think such a system would be useful or valid if one did exist. It was my understanding that the symbols of 'style' mentioned in that post were to be similar to user-icons or heraldic devices.

Some people find applying a catagory useful.

Generally it just seems to be a metaphor some people use.

There's also things such as splits, trauma cause, anatural, blah blah.

Sometimes it's useful. sometimes not.

What would be the point of catagorizing a system?

*Sorry if this is a dumb question...

Probably just for conversation sake. It might make it easier to explain what a particular system is about.

If I said our group was a non-disordered gateway, that would say a completely different thing than saying our group was a disordered mid-continuum. One suggests a large, possibly very co-conscious group and the other suggests something else.

To me, that's all it would really mean. Just making it simpler to explain the basics of our group in a couple of words.

That is what categorization systems are often used for. It also helps with certain types of documentation and resource management.

There isn't anything that official or formal. The idea of a household having a style is something [livejournal.com profile] zaphkiel came up with. They had observed a few of these styles personally with the groups they knew, and worked it into a story, that's all. It wasn't even supposed to be that formal in the story -- it was an option that some groups included on their tags. Closer to what [livejournal.com profile] duathir said, more like user icons or heraldic devices.

i think it'd be neat to understand common patterns in system arrangement. might help closet-splits that read sybil and say, 'im not like that, i must not be multiple' etc.

probabaly alot of folk dont want to be classified yet again, but id like it.

btw. ive yet to see an explanation that helps me understand exactly what a 'median' or a 'gateway system' is that helps me understand if we are one or not.

but there seem to be some common distinctions among systems.
some suggested words for them too.
-rigid/nonrigid (rigid boundaries, little/no internal comm, blackout for days years etc, vs coconscious blurring tendencies with occaisional resulting confusion) correct me if thats not accurate?
-we've always known vs. closet splits "we never figured it out until we were xx years old"
-'splits' vs non-splits?
-trauma based? vs creative talent based??? vs incoming?? awakened constructs?

i doubt the accuraccy of this is in anyway adequate, but maybe it'll start something.

(i gotta go now :l )

Yes, like us or [livejournal.com profile] idianshire or many of [livejournal.com profile] sethrenn. We also sometimes count as gateway systems those whose people are from earth but from other times.
