Umm... I feel kind of weird asking this but...

If someone in your system who shares an account with you... an account which keeps LOGS... has um.......... cybersex........ with someone else...

And you wake up the next morning naked... and you KNOW what happened but you are still VERY curious...

Is it morally right to go and look at the logs?

Or is it like....... an invasion of privacy?

>_> >.<

Um...... thanks.....

Privacy issues aside, in our House if you keep a log, then people have the right to look at it.

Since it involves shared space (i.e. your body) then I think it would be alright to read it.

then again, it also involves the other cybersex participant..

Wow...that is a problem. lol Maybe you can ask the other person who had the cybersex if you can read it? Though, to be honest, I would treat it just as if anyone outside my body had used my account. I would consider it fair game. Now, if they did it in their own account then that would be different.

Hmm... I would talk to the person who had cybersex first. But like [livejournal.com profile] weare said it's your account so it's fair game. Suggest they get their own account to "play" on.

In this house? Not bloody damn likely without permission. It is so very rare that we don't know what happened, that if it ever so occurred we'd want to keep it that way for a very long time.

But ordinarily we do have a fairly good idea which logs contain something personal and we would not read it out of respect even if we knew what happened.

i guess this is how we would approach it,

1) is your body of legal-age of consent?
2) do you know for certain that the people engaged in the cybersex were both(all) of the legal age of consent?
3) you mention waking up naked, is there a rule/law in your system against that?, added to this, did you wake in a "safe" place? (i.e. waking naked in a shared-computer room or in a private bedroom)
4) is the log a shared log that anyone in your system has rights to, or is it understood/determined to be private property of the person(s) involved?

so long as laws were not broken, and no one was put "in harm" and your system does not allow its "children" to view said logs, then i see it as personal business and not a matter for public-consumption, nor that of the rest of the system...

if the person in your system *chooses* to show you those logs, that is their business...

just re-read what i posted above, i suppose #3 is more applied to the thought of "do you need to take action" and really isn't for the argument of "to view, or not to view"...

apologies.

Privacy is a big deal with the Shire, but in saying that, if someone is foolish enough to leave a log in a public account.. well that's just asking for trouble

They said they share it, they might not have private accounts. I know a few systems with only one account, in which case, I wouldn't by necessity consider it fair game.

If you share the logs, then I'd say that's 'implied permission' for either of you to look at anything in them, but it would still be polite to ask.

Attempting to be more serious.

until recently we've never shared a log, sooo....

But I know that Selene is fairly easy going about that sort of thing, so long as I wasn't treating it like porn o_O

I tend to get a lot of overflow of impressions and such from her at times like that though, so I don't really need to be told what she got up to...

I totally didn't answer your question.

I think, you need direct permission. There's no harm in reading a little bit back, see how it ended (ended, ENDED, not 'from half way through...'), just to feel more secure or whatever, but to read more, yeah, it's advisable to check.

But it would be really funny not to >:D

Waking up naked usually just means for us that someone who doesn't like wearing clothes to bed fell asleep. ^^

You know this person engages in cybersex. You woke up naked in your room. Now, you want to read the logs.

Why? You already know that he or she cybered that night. What questions do you want answered, and is reading the log required in order to answer the question? Bluntly, you are talking about reading two people's masturbation session, it's kind of private. You might want to think of some alternate methods of satisfying your curiousity.

What, exactly, is your concern? If they had cybersex, what does it change about being naked. If you are concerned about other reasons, they may still be possible, even if they're cybersex in the logs.

If you can, it might be a good time to ask around in-system, as to what happened last night.

for us, we share a trillian account, and I know when Faith and Tara are having cybersex(or Liz or Alana, for that matter...)or something similar, and with us, specifically, if one of us('cept cubbie, cos he's young, but nothing's stopping him)wants to read the logs, go right ahead...we're not shy with each other...

but with y'all, you might want to ask first...

To seriously answer the question, though: for us, having a shared AIM account (I assume that's what you meant) means anyone can look at the logs. I don't know if you guys work on that basis. My suggestion would really just be to get ahold of the 'instigator' and ask if it's okay to see. It might be easier for you to get different accounts if they want to keep private logs.

Some of us do have files on the computer that are kind of mentally-tagged, so that when we look at them, we're supposed to remember "oh, this is Ruka's file-- we should ask permission before looking at it." There's a certain amount of leakthrough anyway because we share so many memories, but I can understand someone not wanting me to look at the details without permission.

Eh, I don't know about you or your system, but I wouldn't read it whether or not it was deemed okay. Sometimes knowing about someone else's sexual habits in too much detail can make things weird, especially if you're not sexually interested in either of the participants in the log (and if you are, that adds a whole new level of weird anyway).

Like, for example, I don't ever want to know the details of Milgram's sex life or Setsu's sex life, 'cause I think of them as family. We're not blood-related, in-system, it's just a kind of adoption thing, so there's technically no legal boundary about it, but it's just not something I do. And people respect that. System members know that, as far as I'm concerned, my relations with my family are totally platonic.

That might not really apply in your case, though, so I'd just err on the side of caution and not read it until you've got permission from the system member whose log it is. In the end, though, it IS your decision, but sometimes doing something like that can result in a lot of hurt feelings, whether or not it's with members of a multiple system or 3D-world roommates.
