I'd like to start this by saying that surfing old posts to make sure I'm not repeating others is difficult when people don't put subjects. Just something to take into consideration.

Second, in this post I am making some assumptions based on what I've read and learned so far from talking to some of you. If I assume wrong, correct me, and I'll work on fixing my theory.

Anyhoo, while journeying through the labyrinth of old posts, I found some old posts on the effects of certain drugs multiples:

Alcohol
Psychedelics

The effects of alcohol sound about like I would imagine it to be like, but the post on psychedelics and the replies surprised me. Especially when people wrote that it sort of... helped them work with their others in different ways. Helped them see everyone at once? It seemed like some people were claiming to have everyone fronting at once (something I haven't encountered yet when talking to people or reading). Is that true?

I know many of you are healthy and functioning and your systems work and you don't need treatment. But... LSD was invented to be used medically... *eyebrows wiggle*

Do you see where I'm going with this? I'm wondering if hallucinogenics would help anyone. Psychedelics have been known to induce schizofrenia or make it worse, and drugs like ecstasy can lead to serious depression- if one person in your system suffers from those (or enjoys them, I dunno), it could hurt much more than help you all. Has it been tried before? Talked about and discarded?

Note: I am definitely not recommending the use of LSD or shrooms or even salvia. Especially not salvia. That stuff is fucked up (and yet it's legal...?). While I didn't see any replies of people seriously freaking out and having bad trips, I have no doubt that it could happen. You all seem intelligent enough to figure this out on your own, so please don't burst my bubble and show me that you're an idiot. Please.

For more information on psychoactive drugs: Erowid!

If you're interested in trying this out from reading the old post, talk to people who have done it before you do, or at least read up on the drug, the dosage, or ask a singlet who has done it. Like me! And of course, afterwards come tell me all about it. Also, people who replied in that old post about their experiences... contact me if you're willing to talk more in depth about it, YIM: mercury_is_me

PS If you think I'm completely psycho for thinking of this, think of the person who invented cheese- yeah, cheese. Oh, this milk would taste really good if we let it sit here and curdle and then squeezed it a lot! Turned out to be a successful venture, didn't it? Yep.

I'm quite glad i found this community as I've been pretty worried about myself and my 'other' for a while. Firstly hello to everyone! :)

I posted a post in the community sextips, asking a few questions and a large amount of people pointed me to 'Multiplicity' (post is here WARNIN SEXUAL CONTENT - http://www.livejournal.com/community/sextips/6759752.html) So I'm here to hopefully maybe find out some more stuff, and meet new people of course. :)

Okay, I'm a 19 -year-old female student, and for about a year I've been aware of another mind inside my head. About 6 months ago he came out as 'Toby', a boy about 17, black hair, green eyes. Of course its not physcial, its just I can 'see' him in my head, as can my girlfriend. We are both slightly clairvoyant too so it may be because that. Also this may be very weird, but the majority of times, he sports a pair of black wings on his back, which sometimes break through his skin and cause a mild pain to my back >.<

Another thing, Toby 'comes through' and tends to range in age from 12 to 19. When hes 18-19 he says hes gay, and before hes bisexual (me, myself im bisexual). Has anyone else had this?

Also, does anyone have it where they have another 'personality' that is the opposite sex?

Sorry for questions and that, and I am willing to answer any anyone asks :) I'm just interested because this really does sound like what I have :) I am going to see a councellor in September, but I'd like a bit of mind-rest before then.

Also, am I likely to find anymore personalities? I have the impression they are 'lurking' but I'm not sure.

Thankyou all who read this :)

This article for the psychiatric times degenerates into almost new age psychobabble discredit multiplicity from a behavioral stance.

It's okay, I'm about degenerate into my own personal psychobabble:

Reading the article, I realise I've got a complicated stance. There is a significant amount of enablement in both the survivor and psychiatric community towards victims, to a level where it damages their ability to function in the outside world. Boundaries need to be drawn, and often aren't, on account of not wanting to hurt or offend the "innocent victim", who has "already gone through so much pain". This behavior helps noone. When faced with a world that is significantly less sympathetic outside of that social context, many people multiple or no, will try to find a way to retreat back to the safe haven of the wounded. I've met people who will invent situations in which they are being attacked or harmed in some manner, or go so far as to actually harm themselves, blaming some new and invisible assailant, ranging from an angry alter or self-destructive thought pattern, to a physical perpetrator. This is differentiated from instances of the above, which can be legitimate occurances. However, some self-examination might be in order for some people, as to what is going on.

It can be debated until the cows come home whether or not the behavior was pre-existing. Perhaps they were histrionic before they were abused, or were already inclined to develop munchausens. After a point it doesn't matter. Like them, I do beleive that it's important to target this behavior, and help them get past it in such a way that allows them to function in the outside world without needing to constantly push themselves down so others can lift them up. I don't agree that targeting this behavior immediately requires disacknowledging the existance of multiple systems wholesale, or other issues.

Simply because someone can replicate something, however crudely, doesn't mean it's not legitimately the case in others. Are we to infer that because of high profile instances of Munchausen's by Proxy, that all mothers who lose their children are doing it for the attention?
