Ok so I hope this doesn't classify as poaching. I'm just wondering after getting into a slight food discussion in the otherkin post how many people would be interested if I started a live journal community or email list about otherworlds. At this point it's really just a thought, I don't know how many people will be interested, or indeed how long our own enthusiasm would last.

Anyway just wondering... and if this is against the rules, my apologies

I think I'd at least check it out.

There's no rules on whether you can start a new community or announce one - in fact if I need to make that official I will; anyone who starts a new community related to multiplicity in any way, it is hereby perfectly alright to announce it here.

For the record, I want to say that crossposting is okay too, and I have never considered this bad netiquette (well, don't overdo it like that one guy, crossposting his smarmy guck to 26 different communities, none of which it was appropriate for).

The only thing I want people to watch out for is the posts going over 30-40 lines -- please lj-cut those so they won't overwhelm people's friendslists.

What is poaching? (Honestly, I never heard of that before) Start whatever community you like. It sounds great.

OK, I knew what regular poaching was but on the internet not. In that case, I have only one time seen a situation where an announcement for List B appeared on List A and a lot of the people from List A migrated to List B, leaving List A high and dry. It's been many years ago, now -- I don't even remember what lists were involved. I am not worried about it and I will put something in the community info saying it is OK to announce or advertise other groups.

We're in. Maybe as more of a reader with questions since our 'other world' isn't fully formed. Sounds interesting. Would it include discussion like that last post, adaptation, otherkin etc...or primarily talk on other worlds?

Good luck with it.

We'd join.

Why?

I ask because main otherkin communities get fairly decent traffic but offshoot communities generally barely get any at all.

It isn't discussed only because nobody brings it up. If you want to bring it up then why not do so in a normal community? If nobody's discussing it in normal communities, chances are nobody will discuss it terribley much in an offshoot community either.

Technically we're otherkin, but since there is nothing in the least to physically distinguish us from earth people (like you said, nothing mythological about us, no tails, wings, etc.) we do not usually count ourselves as same.

There was a list that ran back in 2001-2002 and got quite a lot of posts for a while. It wasn't so much specifically about otherkin as it was to discuss people's worlds-- other worlds, internal things you created, alternate realities, etc. Actually it was a bit like [livejournal.com profile] worldswithin, just with a focus on plurals who had such worlds. So having seen the number of posters that one had, I'm pretty certain we could get a similar thing working again.
