The Protector
This body wears a heart
Visible to the world
But it is only an empty shell
To hide the real one
The one steeled within
Sealing it away
From this heinous existence
I am the protector
The one who saved this miserable soul
From worldy pains
Day by day I built this cage
To protect a tormented child
Her life devoid of love
Never understanding why
I created a shelter
Giving answers to all her questions
Shaping her
But never truly controlling
She found a key I left
To a small portion of our heart
Having created many compartments
Each needing a separate key
She cracked open the door
Ever so slightly
Only to be consumed in a flood
Of repressed emotion
I came along and saved her yet again
So here I am
Left to fend off the world
While she hides in a corner
Hoping that someday
She can find the right key
