So.. here's a question..

Okay.. I've noticed a pattern of things that happens when a person wakes up here.. For a day or two before the person arrives, a name will be repeated in our head repeatedly, as if someone's whispering it in our ear over and over. We'll also get a "feeling" or energy signature to go with the name.

Eventually, we'll notice that there's a new person.. And when switchboardgirl runs a trace on the new person, we find out that it's the person who matches the energy signature and name that we had been getting/feeling for the day or two beforehand.

This has happened repeatedly, most recently with bubbly_sunshine and her siblings, and with our newest resident, Thomas.. For example, when Cecelia was being introduced, we heard her name over and over, while getting this feeling of just general happy-go-lucky-ness (is that a word??) and joy. Which is -exactly- how Cecelia feels.

And now, with Thomas, we got his name, and a feeling of a very gentle, chivalrous, and honorable person. I'd say that he almost feels like what we'd imagine a medieval knight to feel like, energy-wise.

It's almost as if the person who is entering our system is introducing themselves, to prevent the other residents here from getting surprised or upset when they finally show up.

My question is.. Does anyone else's system have this same introduction process? *laughs* I honestly would just chalk it up to coincidence, but it's happened one too many times for my comfort.

We absolutely do hear the name repeating as if it is a birdsong, or someone whispering the name over and over again. Sometimes we get a strong feeling accompanying the name about the person's nature, and sometimes we don't have it when we hear the name, but the individual nature of the person is magically just there a few days later, as if from nowhere.

We also have it happen where someone will show up and then we'll get their name and nature.. Those people make us hella nervous.. *chuckles* But, by far, the majority do it name and nature first..

Yes, we hear the name first and a vague sense of the person and what they are like, maybe a vague image. This is for people who are frontrunning for the first time, or haven't frontrun in a long time.

If you were the only person who had this, it would still be legitimate you know. :) (besides being a cool thing)

*grins* Well.. I know it would be legit even if we were the only system that has it.. But it's nice to know we're not, y'know?? 'cuz this all still weirds us out at times, for some reason.

Names are usualy one of the last things we get from a "new" person. We'll usualy get senses of there being someone else there, and after awhile they'll talk or make themselves known. How long it takes depends.
But I think most often "new" people end up either asking to be named or renaming themselves.
...or forcing us to name them what they want, like in Loki's case...

I think it's a function of our having switchboardgirl running system communications.. Because, looking back, it really only started happening once she got settled in. Before that the person would show up and then we'd eventually get a name (or name them)..

Now, if someone suddenly shows up and doesn't introduce themselves beforehand, we know to watch them, because they're going to cause shit. It happens every time someone tries to "sneak in", without fail. *chuckles*

Luckily, like I've said, the great majority of new people introduce themselves before entering the system. It's nice, because we know right off the bat who to watch, and who we can trust.

This has happened a few times with Us. Sometimes the pattern or energy shows up first and We either name her (so far there's only been one 'him') or wait to be told the name.

In here, though, there are people who have been a functioning part of the system forever that still haven't identified... early last spring the request was sent out that those who were really involved in outside life move away from so much anonymity and hiding from each other. I'm pretty sure the level of secrecy was a survival strategy... the fewer people that act in front of Ko, the filter layer, the less chance of doing something noticably strange in front of real-time people (like clients or kid's teachers) and the safer We'll all be. Something shifted in the past year, maybe the operating system is sturdier, and there's been alot of activity ever since.

Lately We've been getting an introductory name chanting that makes me a little nervous. I'm very curious what 'Mutiny' is going to be like when she finally makes an appearance.

*laughs* Yeah. We'd be a bit worried if someone named Mutiny was introducing themselves. But, then again, if they're going to go to the trouble of introducing themselves, they aren't going to cause too much shit..

switchboardgirl has a hard rule that if someone new wants to front, that they either 1> have a name (not a problem if they come in the normal way) or 2> co-front with someone who's trusted. Usually she'll cofront with them, because she has the most power in the system (as system communications head) and can yank them out of the fronting room if they cause shit.

What happens to us, most of the time, is that someone who hasn't been named or has a sort of 'placeholder' name (until we get a real one) will keep focusing on a certain name and can't get it out of their head, and then we realise that is their name. Heh. :>

Yup. That used to be how we'd function when someone new would show up, way back in the day, before switchboardgirl woke up and got system communications up and running. First we did it that way.. Then we had a bunch of names of people that we knew were in stasis, and we'd play "match the name to the new person".. And now we do it with the introductions.

It's kinda an evolving process.

As far as the confusion as to who's fronting. That's a minor drawback to how well Court's gotten system communications going. We're always co-conscious to one degree or another, so it's sometimes hard to tell who's the "most front" at times. Mostly when we're tired or in pain, or otherwise stressed.

But, honestly.. With all the benefits that we have now that we have a sysadmin here, the drawbacks are really minor. It's nice to have introductions and to know where everyone is, how they're doing, and what they're doing. I'll take the minor confusion we get at times, no problem.

We tend to get the "energy signature" thing before getting a distinct person emerging, yes. But not, usually, a name... generally the new person will have to choose a name, or else will tell us one when s/he is more properly present and able to actually talk...

We haven't had a new person in a while, but for a while there people were popping up like crazy. Usually their name is repeated over and over again like that. It's annoying sometimes.

There are still a few in here who haven't given their names yet, or don't have names. Some of us have chosen a new name, and in Liz's case she keeps adding on to her name (Angela Elizabeth Evans-Baker-Marshall... you'd think 3 last names would be enough, but she's trying to pick a fourth now!)

*laughs* A lot of ours just use the clan name for their last name.. It makes the process easier, I think. *grin*
