Introduction
Mar. 8th, 2004 08:27 pmHi, you guys. My name's Stephanie and I'm a 15-year-old singleton with a semi-multiple friend (she, who was born into the body, always fronts but with the input of her others-- I think they don't know how to front or something, 'cause one of 'ems not very nice and probably would take over if she could :P). Her two others are her own age, which is probably nice AND annoying.
I will be reading, so I wanted to introduce myself. I ask that anyone who comments on this post introduce all of or at least the frontrunners of their system, who would be willing, so I know who's who (especially all of you littles, hey there!) :)
I can be IMed at checkyourhatsir if anyone wants to make sure I'm here of my own interest, not trying to do research (although you guys seem to be quite nice about it), and not a meanie :P

Date: 2004-03-08 06:26 pm (UTC)That's the first time I've heard someone ask for all members of a household to stand up and introduce themselves. I have to say, I'm not sure that is terribly practical.
It isnt a matter of introducing 'cores', because many systems dont have 'em. We do write as a group, or even if there is one dominant writer at a given time, we prefer to just focus on what is being expressed.
If we were to introduce ourselves we would be blathering forth a list of almost twenty names, and that would doubtless not be the whole enchilada. Some systems have a hundred or more people, some thousands. And the names would only be names, without meaning.
A singlet isnt asked to give a perfect explanation of who they are at the moment they speak or write..
Not intending to be harsh with you..I was just struck by how difficult it would be to be accountable for who you are at every second..multiple or singlet. It would be a dull world indeed if we always had to be so dead certain of our identity.

Date: 2004-03-08 06:54 pm (UTC)I guess I intended to unjoin because I didn't know if it were proper for a non-multiple to join the community. If it's okay with everyone, I'll stay in.

Date: 2004-03-08 07:15 pm (UTC)Whoever is writing is too exhausted to be anything but amorphous..but let us say we are a gaggle of mostly mad girls, mostly in teens and early twenties, but ranging from roughly age two to thirty five. We are comprised of three families; an autistic and highly visionary family, a boozy, dramatic, self destructive and traumatized family, and a hermaphroditic, shamanistic, sort of stone ageish, faeryish family.
I'm not sure how many systems here consider themselves as having cores. It is a good question for the peanut gallery...ugh. Cant believe I said that....hate Howdy doody hate it hate it...

Date: 2004-03-08 08:22 pm (UTC)I think what you want to know is not the names of cores (we've none), but frontrunners -- and of the frontrunners, those who are likely to post. Many people sign their posts. Some system members have their own individual accounts. As Jay points out, we have named icons. Those of us who post under the general account name often simply do not know their own names up front.
I took your request rather in the spirit of a friend of ours who once wanted to know the names of all the then-frontrunners so she could learn who we were, recognise us by our voices, and do us the courtesy of addressing us by name. She even quoted 3 John 3:14. But I hope to see you soon, and we will speak face to face. Peace be to you. The friends greet you. Greet the friends by name. It was sweet.

Date: 2004-03-08 08:45 pm (UTC)I do find your wish to address us by name to be courteous if a bit impractical (not everyone knows their name -- including not everyone in this group, as I've said), but system names or lj handles always work.
Also, read some of the previous posts... always a good idea for newcomers in any case.

Date: 2004-03-08 11:35 pm (UTC)Jeff: That's a matter of opinion!
Jay: *falls over laughing*
And they stay that way, even if you rename them back to what they were in the first place! *fusses with icons* Okay. That's better. Anyway, http://www.livejournal.com/allpics.bml?user=ksol1460 should give you some idea.
Andy (just in case this icon doesn't work!)

Not to worry...
Date: 2004-05-22 10:48 pm (UTC)And you're perfectly welcome to read and post whenever you like. It's completely open.
Jess thanks you for the compliment on her icon. She does look like that, but darker, with long black hair. She is Gabriel's older sister. They live in a good-sized farmhouse, but there is a shack like Nell's on their property, near the river. Jess uses it as a kind of summer kitchen; she dries herbs out there, and does some canning.

Date: 2004-05-22 10:53 pm (UTC)Oh that's so pretty!! If it's remotely like the scenery in 'Nell' I'm entirely envious.

Re: Not to worry...
Date: 2004-05-22 10:58 pm (UTC)I think Andy was meaning that people can be multiple without having MPD or DID which are psychiatric diagnoses. Keep reading. There are plenty of people on this community that will be happy to explain anything you don't understand.
Re: Not to worry...
Date: 2004-05-22 11:01 pm (UTC)Oh okay, sooo what would one refer to multiples (?) as? Without being offensive or anything?
Oh, is that like "I am actually from England, Miss Stewart"?

Ahem from me ... the semi-moderator althought others would disagree ...
Date: 2004-03-09 08:05 pm (UTC)well at least just be nice. it's okay to not know things and to ask things. i think multiples like to help others understand. at least some. we aren't so good at it.
anyway ... please stay :)

Date: 2004-03-08 07:00 pm (UTC)Duathir has his own Lj, and also comments here once in a while. He doesn't assume corporeality (what people here call "fronting") easily and can't maintain it very long, but he reads along with me most of the time. His twin doesn't read or write, and has only learned to speak a little in the past few years - he is corporeal for at least part of every day, but he's very shy, so few people have ever seen him, and even fewer have ever known we're not the same person.
I'm the one who deals with communicating with other people. Duathir is nominally head of our small Household, insofar as we need one. Crist-Erui is the strongest of us, the most "grounded" in corporeality. There have been others among us at varying times - visitors, guests, and on a couple of occasions, intruders - but we're the ones who live here permanently.

Date: 2004-03-08 07:12 pm (UTC)Do you make it a habit of joining all your groups just to tell everyone you want them to introduce themselves to you?
If you want to know something about someone, you should read their livejournal (provided it's open to the public), read the archive of the group to see if they have an introduction somewhere, or ask them in private. You most especially don't expect people to introduce their children to a stranger.
Oh, and for further reference, we're all real people here. Even if the system does have an original person, that doesn't mean that person is any more special or interesting to know about than the rest of the system.

Date: 2004-03-08 07:48 pm (UTC)I find this post quite rude. The girl is 15, she's not multiple herself but she's making an effort to understand, and what she gets is a big fat smackdown because she doesn't automatically understand the etiquette of the "multiplicity culture". Yes, in essence you are correct in your "points", but since we're apparently dealing in "shoulds" here now, you should have phrased them with a little more civility.

Date: 2004-03-08 07:59 pm (UTC)I cant think of how many times I've wanted to comment in a friend's journal, or even post on multiplicity, AS ANOTHER MULTIPLE, and have not done so because I was afraid of appearing a fool. This girl has some courage.

Date: 2004-03-08 08:28 pm (UTC)but to introduce ourselves, we're oihanen, the people from the forest. i'll give you one guess what our internal landscape is.. lol. we're a pretty motley crew. got all kinds of adjective in here. but we do the regular hold-down-the-fort type stuff like putting on pants, falling asleep in algebra, buying groceries, and spending waaay too much time on the internet. (what, are you kidding? there's no such thing as too much internet.)
and i can't think of any reason why you wouldn't be allowed to stay here. it's not like we're elitist or anything. ::rolls eyes:: welcome, anyway.
