we don't have anyone who's dead that is active. We have a cemetary, with about 3 dozen graves. Pretty much, when you die you're dead. [no kidding, LOL] But what i mean to say is that death is permanent in the land of jenscovia.
We have someone called the "automated one" who seems to be quite like Data from Star Trek as she/she doesn't seem to have emotion but sole purpose is to "run the system" and every time something drastic changes, the system seems to go down and she (he/she mostly seems to speak with a female voice) reprograms and restructures. It's hard to explain now that I think about it.
Perhaps hard to explain, but not so hard to understand. We have a computer, the "BCC", which controls most of the bodily functions (mental, emotional, and physical) and at times, does something that sounds similiar to what "automated one" does when he/she reprograms and restructures.
We've got something We call DB.. DataBase... that seems modeled after a computer type construct. It keeps track of "real" time and files memories during switches so there is little to no "lost" time.
we have an android girl named "eriko" although she has some unit designation number too that i can't remember. i apparently made her peripherally over a few days when i was frontrunning and i needed a break from the mindless job i was in at the time.
since i realized what i did i gave her a name and she tends to things whenever everyone else is busy or avoiding fronting. she has a few emotions but they are very underdeveloped but she's been very slowly developing them more and learning what its like to have them. she also often dresses like a maid even though i don't want her to think she is stuck in some kind of "servant" role. apparently she thinks of herself like that because of seeing an android in an anime we were watching who became the main character's maid (dorothy from "big O") and she liked the idea.
My 'brother' Duathir has maintained right along that he is dead. He remembers his death, which was a violent one, and one of his "issues" about assuming corporeality is that he sometimes used to get such severe chest-pains when he did, that he feared this body would die of them even with no actual injury.
My opinion, which I have maintained right along, is that he's not dead - no more than anyone else, because if one person can die and yet still be around, be born in a new body, doesn't that mean others do too? - but that for whatever reason, he has stayed too attached to the time-before. He can't live THIS life until he lets go of THAT one.
The whole issue gets really complicated, metaphysical, abstruse, and, ultimately, moot, because there's no way to prove anything.... so... we mostly don't bother arguing about it now. But he has been working on his "corporeality issues", and will now at least consider the possibility that he is as alive as anyone else. After all, he has an active mind, intense emotions, and a functional body, or at least an equal 1/3 share in one.
Earth world information and necessary skills are stored in a common knowledge database we call "the pool" and anyone can draw on it. That's the foundation of our operating system. If a person was absolutely new to the front they'd still be able to get essential things done.
I guess you could count the autosecs as non-living "others". They are recorded avatars of actual Registry operators. Operators flip things over to autosec while they take tea breaks, between shifts, or just when nobody feels like running the switchboard. If you want to hear an autosec in the earth world, dial 1-800-USA-RAIL and chat with Julie.

had a computer once. shrugs. it was a gatekeeper though. its gone now, and I isthe current gatekeeper. We too have a graveyard. It has about 20 graves in it. sighs...mostly casualties of an alter war long ago.
Just saw these responses while backchecking through the memories sections.
We have cemeteries all over Laura, particularly in the western lands where the dead are buried rather than burned. In the east, cremation is usual. In our world, people are born and die the same as on earth.
A gatekeeper would be, yeah, someone who keeps track of comings and goings at front, maybe briefs people on what's going on, appropriate situations (e.g. people who can't drive don't come up front while driving), etc.
In my system, I might have one... I'm not sure what Hotaru is... she acts as an autopilot when no one else in the system wants/is able to front. She pretty much never speaks, and can only preform the basic functions nessecary for us. But Shiori insists that Hotaru is her younger sister, and they certainly do seem to have a sisterly bond, but Shi regards Hotaru as a machine *shrug*
Our system has five members. At least, that's what we usually say because that's really all that's relevant to just about anyone not a member of our system.
However, there is a sixth member. Inorganic and no sense of identity or ego, but I still think of it as something separate from the rest of us. We call it the fire. We are each linked to it, and apparently we each relate to it in a different way. It's primary functions seem to be allowing us to relate to each other in ways that make sense for us and sorting and organizing information so it doesn't get lost or get in the way. However, it has no will of its own, so that sorting and organizing, while very efficient, isn't really 'intuitive' for us (me, at least) when we're trying to remember something.
Something that happened not too long ago leads me to believe it might also be responsible for running and regulating our other world.
We're intrigued. A wall??? As part of your system? (We're not meaning for that to come out sounding doubtful..... We're just throughly confused and curious.)
well, the only people ever went to where it's located are only 2 (of the strongest ones.. not a safe area *cringe*).. and afaik, it only 'spoke' to one of them~
at first we thought the consciousness was from something/someone inside or beyond the wall, but since it.. er.. tried to eat its own guardian (a boy found along –guarding it), our view changed ^^;
