Alters screenplay

I don't have MPD / DID, but I've had two close friends with DID and have known several others.

I'm currently working on a screenplay which I'm hoping will cast multiplicity in a favorable light, and would love to get some input.

The log line: A college student with multiple personalities must make a choice between the boy she loves and the alters who've kept her safe since childhood.

Although there's no explicit sex or violence, I've tried to be very straightforward, so there may be some triggers.

I didn't D/L your screenplay because this isn't my comp and I can't, but I'm really surprised that multiples in this LJ community haven't been jumping down your throat harder, because while we in this body try to be very patient and lenient with people that don't understand what it is to be multiple, even we would argue ADAMANTLY against being called MPD or DID anymore. (Given that both are still listed in our interests list, but that's more for people who are still dissociative multiples who are interested in becoming aware of each other and learning to work together like we are.)

In response to your post. How would you explain it to people outside the multiples community? I was actually thinking about using DID in the script, but it occurred to me that no one outside the psychiatric community would understand what I'm talking about. Would "plurally inclined" (which is how one of my friends describes herself) be a better title than "alters?"

Inside Family

Hello, DID and MPD are different. But this is still being debated. It was Separate in DM then the next time they put it together again and I have heard they are going to separate it again. I have a page about the difference if you would like me to post it let me know.
As far as what to call the ones you call alters. I call them what they are my inside family.. they are family. and family who have took years of abuse for each other. I am only the fill in host. our original is still 6 years old. so in your words i would be an alter. let me say it took me a year or so to realize i was not the original and one inside thought for years she was. so your friends may not know for sure who the original was. This being said if Heather was not the original and if this merging thing happened as you said it did then heather would have left.
we can be co conscious meaning both knowing what is going on on the outside and we can talk among ourselves about it. but we do not see each other outside the body standing next to us. now our inside world we all have our own bodies. we can interact and do things. we have a house , a whole world.
if you done this movies where the outside was in black and white and the inside in color. then people could tell the difference.
I also agree with the people who have said that for you to use terms like my friend claims to be MPD and to say i have known {her} for years and love {her} will get many upset. if this was one of our friends saying this they would say. I have known angel and her family for years and love them.
so good word is what we are Family and to help others know which family then "Inside Family"

btw.. those little pills they give one to merge. let me tell you what they done to my family. they put them into a deep sleep where they dreamed over and over the worse time in each's life. i am glad one was strong enough to wake up and let me know what was going on so i could stop the pills. i decided then these people are my family and i am not going to put them to sleep to hurt. i don't think i would have mergered since not the original. Maybe at some point i would have went inside to the dream hell also and the original come out. BTW just because one of the family has the name on the birth certificate does not mean they are the original.

As I understand it, the terms referred to the same patients, but MPD was defined as the presence of multiple personalities, while DID was described as thinking you had multiple personalties. A definite step backwards, there.
