Technology

I have a lot of technology in my system. I was curious if other systems did or not. My system is not so grounded on the laws of physics, so there are a lot of things that can be done in here that isn't possible out here.

Simon

Nice to meet you.

What sort of technology?

We're not exactly "grounded" on the laws of physics either. Feral has padded trampoline walls in her bedroom and can bounce in gravity-defying ways. :> Of course she can't do that Outside, which is kinda disappointing.

and Feral too :>

no technology at all in our world, but a bit of magic, it is, or was a forest but a while back some bad thing shappened and there was a forest fire everything is growing back but taking it's time, when we are there we tend to morph into mice now because the shrubs are bigger then and it feels more like being back in the forest how it was, anyone have any magic faery dust to make it all grow back faster?

We use a lot of computer metaphors to explain our inner workings to others. We explain how we share memories with each other by comparing us to a computer network where each computer has it's own hard drive of memories, but there is also a server of memories that everyone has access to.

As for inner-world technology, if we can dream it, we can build it inside. :)

We don't understand most technology. We don't even understand how our car blinkers stop blinking when we have finished turning the corner. We rely mostly on things that start and stop when they are expected to.

Physics is a new world to us and we're finding it amazing. We like that it could maybe teach us how things and beings relate to each other. We usually study psychology which leaves a lot of open-ended questions.

It's nice to meet you though too!

We have a lot of technology on Laura. Spaceships are just the beginning. Antigrav is quite routine so we have aircars, floaters and that sort of thing, automatic sliding doors, replicators (considered junk food for busy people), etc. Computers are also routine and used just about the way they are on earth -- voice interfaces are more common however. Communication via ethernet is planetwide and mostly works, although the jokes you will hear about trying to get a phone connection to North Iri are all too true.

The telephone company is called the Registry and keeps contact information for anyone who is registered, although a lot of people are not or may just forget to update when they move and so forth. Registry also handles the internet on Laura, which is variously referred to as Access, Central Net, the Web or (very archaically) the Wires, terms that date back at least thirty of your earth years.

Television is handled by a variety of state and independent facilities. What we call CNN is actually a world network run by the oldest state television service, Maidre Aurea. There are a lot of entertainment channels as well as CSpan- and FSTV-like coverage). We can also pick up and relay to and from other worlds.

You will see most of the very high tech in the larger cities, of course, especially Aurea. People choose what they want -- things are still pretty laidback and old-style in places like Koveh and the islands. It's very routine to see a lady driving a wagon pulled by a couple of marnah and talking on a communicator. There are trains all over the mainland and subway systems in Aurea City; most Dascian cities have trolleys and/or streetcars. We were way ahead of Japan when it comes to hasha (http://homepage2.nifty.com/carriersound/rail/railway.htm), melodies used as signals in train stations. (Like'em? http://tekipaki.jp/~melody/ has more, if you do a little intuitive browsing...)

Our internals are like the inside of a pseudo-Zentraedi starship. There's other equipment too, like a transporter room right out of a Klingon ship and some weird "gates" kind of like the Stargate that some people use for bedrooms or private domains. We're mostly technophiles, and the Kid was a HUGE sci-fi fan before We all started spawning, so it rubbed off on a lot of Us I guess.

Hey, regarding characters from anime, books and otherwise being part of multiple systems, have you seen this site (http://soulbonding.tripod.com/)? They've got some very insightful (imo) essays on the overlap between Soulbonding and Multiplicity, so you might find it useful.

Physics bah ;p

Although a lot of us come from different worlds, we sometimes use the comparison of our 'communal space' to the Matrix, as it can be manipulated by the will of those existing in it, in ways that would violate the known earth laws of physics. ;)

As far as technology goes, you'd have to ask individual members of the system what they have in their worlds.
