Something similar has happened to us on occasions. After a trauma--or what others inside would consider a trauma--communication tends to break down for us. I've found it's just a matter of time and reassurance, especially for the little ones and anyone who's carried trauma. For me, writing to them helps.

I've also learned not to shut anyone in our out without a group conference so everyone understands why. That way it doesn't feel traumatic for them.

It's hard to accept the memories. I go through periods of major denial frequently.
