DID is just the new name of MPD
a couple of years ago, some people decided that the term MPD was offensive, so they changed it
i think DID is more offensive, but whatever

Multiple Personality Disorder was the old term used by psychologists. It's still used in some places outside of North America. Dissociative Identity Disorder is the new term used by psychologists.

Practically speaking, DID and MPD mean the same thing. The name was changed to DID to reflect the new classification as a dissociative disorder. People felt that MPD sounded too much like it was a personality disorder. Psychologists also felt that the term multiple personalities was misleading because "no one really has more than one personality." They use identity instead because some psychologists think that we suffer from a lack of a personality and use different identity or ego states to compensate.

People don't usually see psychologists because there's nothing wrong with them.

Well, I hate to use this word, but don't worry. Your relationships (including pregnancy) may be as various as those with people outside you, and it may get confusing too, but you'll manage that. Hope your pregnancy goes well and birth too!

As to DID name, I didn't really understand that. I've done some web-test on DID and got the result I *am* with DID (expectable, of course), but this feels quite unfair. I mean, in the houses where the habitants of the same house get confused all and don't communicate well, it may be reasonable, but what about those who communicate with everybody quite fine and who can handle when being coupled with more anti-social members?

I mean, I know about some people here inside that would be pitiful criminals if let to, but we always got somewhat over it without the intervention of psychs, we got over sleeping disorders, we got over eating problems, we got over hearing voices (yes guys, some people here here voices that are not quite yours and that don't seem as whole persons, which is strange). We didn't get over my depression, but with my depression, the amnesia is bound more only to my state- I know I was me, I just know I was depressed and don't know what emotions at a whole I had. But hey, there's basically very good communication and cooperation, why should some people get labeled "dissociative" just because it's not THEM who remembers the thing, but it's someone else who LIVES WITH THEM?

It's like with neighborhood, if someone helps with laundry at Wendesdays and someone else the other days, how does matter who did what, if the corridor's clean? How does it differ, just because we are INSIDE people? But that's absurd, that's absurd. State of inner cleaness is what matters, not who did the laundry.

Maamkizi/cheers,
Nat

Web test?
You don't happen to remember where you found it? Would you please post the link?

Nat was probably referring to the Dissociative Experiences Scale as developed by Colin Ross. This is not really a test to see if you are multiple, although it has long been mistaken for one, including by Ross himself.

At any rate, it is here:
http://www.rossinst.com/des.htm

Bear in mind that this is Colin Ross' idea of dissociation and is informed by his theories on DID. Some background reading on him and on theories of dissociation and particularly on the validity of tests like these to measure -- well, anything, would be appropriate. Good luck.
