Okay, well, here goes--

My name around here is DLFreak, or DL, as people call me. I am, in fact, an otherkin, but that really has nothing to do with the question I am going to ask.

I'm not entirely sure if I am a multiple or not. First of all, I do have several distinct, different people/voices who I talk to regularly, some more often than others. Most of these are characters I have written--or, rather, who have written themselves. One of these is named Jack, whom I talk to the most out of these voices.
Now, Jack's clearly different from me as they all are. His case is different, however, as he can actually...I suppose you call it "front", here? He hardly ever does, and he never does it unless I allow him to. And every time he does, I am still fully in control and can call him back at any time. For the most part, he is just another voice that I talk to, like the others.
I just think the curious part of this is his inability--or perhaps unwillingness--to "front" unless I give him my permission. Other times, he seems to take a sort of guardian role for me, counseling me when I get really upset and stuff like that. Whenever he wants to talk, he usually just lets me say everything for him.

Any ideas? Is this multiplicity or not? Am I just a crazy one here? Am I both? O.o;;

What do you consider fronting?

Sometimes when we writing, individuals will fall into the pattern of thinking from the POVs of the characters but with that wierd dichotomy where there's the character's thoughts and their thoughts simultaneously. Are you sure you're not doing something similar? Or maybe something similar combined with a more rapid relay than when you're speaking for him?

Lots of people talk with their 'characters', writers included. Some people consider it a form of SoulBonding, on the not-multiplicity-like end of the scale. There are whole groups of people that call them muses.

no reason it couldn't be similar.

Just chucking in, that I had a similar sensation when Selene was learning to front, although she wasn't taking orders from me. I was still around at the front, but it was like she was kind of 'in front' of me. I called it grafting because I couldn't find any better terminology.

But she has moved on from that. I'd be inclined to agree with pengke here (and that idea is certainly a good one to consider anyway)

i dont know if this will help and dont know if its the case with you as i can not diagnose you or anything like that...but there is such a thing called median.

"Probably the main characteristic distinguishing medians from singlets and multiples is the presence of more than one person in the body, but without the independence of persons in a multiple system. Persons in a median system may be dependent upon a single individual (who may have created them at some point), and unable to exist without that central person..."

My advice is not to worry if it's multiplicity or not. If everyone's content just to say things through you or to pretend to be you, you can do whatever you feel like internally and you don't really need to worry about what to call yourselves to others...

I am able to control my others fronting 90% of the time :) I don't know if I AM multiple, but I class myself as that and I feel happy talking here and with other multiples. Sometimes in cases of extreme emotion however, my others can 'force' themselves through quite easily.
