For us as adults, when we had a lot of days like that (the crash at the end) it was often due to our diet. Having three relatively balanced meals (protein + good carb + fruit/veggie) a day and a healthy snack midafternoon helps to prevent the crash. Oddly enough for a lot of people, not eating breakfast, or eating a high sugar/white flour/no protein breakfast will cause a crash in the evening, regardless of what they ate for lunch &c.
