Crossposting now, because Aubrey is a doofus and forgot ~A
He was bored at work and whipped this up, just a kind of "What are we" thing.
Netdancer Collective is a multiple entity, a number of individuals who happen to share a single body. This was a disorder at one time but we have learned to work together and accommodate each other so that we function smoothly as a unit. It is almost impossible to tell when examining us from the outside that there might be anything unusual going on behind our eyes.
There are ‘tells’. Signs that are there for people who know what to look for and how to see it. Sometimes people ask us out of the blue if we’re multiple after they watch us cycle through the available Fronts while working on a problem…the changes in expression and posture are very slight but there, as are the changes in speaking style. In some environments we lock down as many Tells as we can, because some places don’t need the information that we work by team effort. We are not out at work and never will be, feeling no need.
Structure: We have a very strong Innerworld that comprises a pretty large world overall, one that is mapped. (We plan on providing a map at some point for the curious.) The Fronting area is a lovely house; this typist lives there as I’m one of the main Fronters. The house is an idealized place to live with everything we’d want in a home; safety and comfort, reasonable luxury. The Control Room setup shows gamer influence, as it looks like the cockpit assembly of a Battlemech from Mechwarrior. The house is the only point in our inner landscape that has an interface to the outside world that we can use. In the Inner World, magic and psionics both work.
Social: Netdancer Collective is a loose democracy. Adults have a vote each, with some individuals having 2 votes as they are regarded as more calm and reasonable. The Littles vote as a block…the more lucid and adult of them speak for all of them.
Size and Composition: We’re aware of about 200 people in here. Only 20 or so Front, the others seem content to live their lives in the Innerworld. Our composition breaks down to multiple races or types of creature:
Empire - (Including Magelords, Horselord Barbarians, anyone from that universe) Generally there’s no ‘human’ stock there – Empire Folk –look- human but some generations ago their ancestors bred with Dragonkind; they have reptile in their genes. Magelords are more humanlike then that, though some have demon blood.)
Embodied gaming characters – Some people, waking up unformed but aware, latched on to and became characters that we were playing who they admired and wanted to emulate. I’m one of those. When I awoke, we were playing Aubrey, a gently compassionate Euthanatos Mage. I chose to become him, to embody him. I picked up his temper too, when you become someone you get all their traits for good or ill.
Created People – People who exist because we needed someone for a function and purpose-built them. Ken is one of these – he was made to Front and maintain a façade of normality during a time when there was a lot of chaos going on both inside and outside of us. They aren’t treated any differently then anyone else – a sentient computer program in flesh is still a person.
Littles – Ages 11 and under; these come in two flavors; the civilized ones (relatively few) and the packs of Feral Kids that kind of roam around in the Inner World, who range in civilization level from ‘naked savages’ to ‘horse (well, pony) barbarians’.
Nonhumans – Vampires. Demons and halfdemons (Mainly the Empire universe folks in this category) and furry things, oh my. Yes, they exist in here. And we treat them as people and as part of us and as citizens. And in general people who don’t believe in them as they exist in the Collective are welcome to get lost and leave us alone. (Well, would YOU want to associate with someone who tells people they aren’t real?)
We’ll answer questions, for thenosy. curious, that is.
