Hello, nice people. I am pretty sure I'm not multiple, but two of my very dear friends are (one from college, one I currently live with), and I noticed that both of them are members of this community. I found this place through them, and have seen some very thoughtful and insightful things posted here. I realize that everyone is different, but in my permanent search for better understanding of everyone I care about, I'd like to join here if you don't mind. If anyone feels uncomfortable at a not-so-multiple girl joining, please tell me and I'll slip back off the members list. I also promise not to say anything mean. :) I think it's very important that this place exists as a safe place.

Date: 2003-03-25 05:50 pm (UTC)I agree that it's important that multiples/plurals be able to have 'safe spaces' where they can just plain be themselves without fear of being condemned/attacked/exploited etc. by society at large. Unfortunately, there are a lot of people out there who are too willing to either jump to condemn out plurals of any kind as merely 'fakers looking for attention' or as someone to take advantage of in some way (thinking that 'I can have sex with one of the other personalities and she'll never know!' or whatever). Sometimes it's just good to be able to kick back and have a discussion like "Hey, do you guys ever argue over what to order in restaraunts and have to cover it up by telling the waiter you're having trouble deciding?" with people who'll know exactly what you were talking about, just as if you were talking about something as mundane as the weather. :)
