We just met the Children's Aid workers assigned to us (apparently they work in pairs, lol) and it went very well. There was a teary moment when we referred to the psychiatric social worker who's been so inappropriate with our case, but in response the CAS people were very kind and said that they would help us in future interactions with the woman in question and wouldn't disclose the information we gave about wanting to lodge a complaint next year and why.
When it comes to us being Multiple, they said that they were willing to learn more because they knew very little about it, and also that they wanted to consult the supports we've had in the past and present in order to best assess what we actually need, as well as look at documents that were supposed to be delivered to them but haven't been obtained yet. 'rolls eyes' They also encouraged us to communicate with them if we have a problem with the way they are conducting themselves when it comes to our case. :)
Next time they will meet with Greg (our partner) and us, get some more of the assessment done, and get consent forms signed so that they can contact our support system ASAP. Meanwhile, one worker said that she thought we were doing very well based on what we had to say about our supports and our proactive efforts towards our health and the baby's.
So, finally, we've got competent people working on this issue. Thank the gods. Let's just hope they are what they advertise themselves to be.

Sounds good
Date: 2005-10-26 11:01 pm (UTC)It seems they really our piling it on thick to get "to know you all" very well sudenlly . Finally . Sorry you had a bad experience with a incompetent Psychiatric Social Worker , they may have just been inexperienced and afraid to admit it . This bothers me cause I am a Social Worker and the truth is they do not give us much understanding of multiplicity in School or any other ailment Psychiatrists dont get much training either .
In the helping field the Schools do not have to teach about everything listed in the DSM4 . If we wanted to understand multiplicity Social Workers , Psychologists and Psychiatrists have to undertake this on there own time in way of Reasaerch . Its a shame , but I specialized and did personality development Research in regards to prenatal care with Teen pregnancies Reasearching on how Prenatal care affects personality development ( For instance Husband wife arguing loud ..how does baby react to loud noises , playing Mozart music or rock , what does baby at birth respond and fall asleep too and so forth ) . I learned allot . About pregnacy from day one being SACRED to personality developemnt.
Everyone picks there specialty.
If faced with someone DID a professional then has to consult Models of therapy from Books or Supervison from others who have worked with Multiples. This is frustrating but they do NOT teach about this in School. It is a unknown Science. We learn from our clients . And it is trial and error allot .
You should check to see if the Social Worker you had a bad experience with is a member of the NASW National Association of Social Workers ( also you can find workers who have published there work In a Social Workers Journal which NASW workers can do , as long as they pay there dues and go to lectures ,if so you can put a complaint on her record that would be public ( not details , it would just say she has a mark or complaint against her .. after so many marks she would lose her license or it would be in jeprody of suspension , if she did not get more classes and Convention, Lectures for credit. This field requires allot of outside continuing furthering education and it is a low paying, very low paying job . Believe it or not most people do go in this profession cause they want to help others or help part of themselves that never recieved help.
It has bothered me that most multiples think the Ts or the MHPs just should know about there diagnosis. Not really. Its not required . We are given a quick overview in school of some symptoms then it is up to us to do the Research and pick a model to follow. . Certainly if a MHP chooses to work with a Multiple they must admitt they will learn from the client and look at other case histories for help . But most time the client will lead in telling what is working and what is not.
I have read some of your posts in the past and know you have been through the mill with MHPs and having your baby .
Thank God all is working out . I hope you get all your paper work soon (hate red tape) which means its sitting on a desk somewhere with a lazy worker . It sounds like you have a very supportive partner and that helps too. Good Luck to you and your family . Peace Shelby

Date: 2005-10-26 11:49 pm (UTC)And my problem isn't that people don't know about the condition (I even told the CAS workers that I understood that a lot of professionals don't), my problem is with the fact that the worker assigned to me refused to learn any more about it despite the fact that if she did know more it would have possibly helped her during her assessment. 'sigh' And there was other conduct that was unrelated to the plurality thing that was inappropriate.
Thanks again.
