Hi to all of you. I was wondering how did you choose the name? We have like 4 different names of groups within our system now because we keep trying to choose a name for the whole system and after we all agree and pick a name, then we(or some of us) decide we dont like it for some reason or other. Does it make a difference how big a system is as to how hard it is to choose one name that "fits" the whole? We have been trying for a long time with not a lot of luck. Any help or info from anyone would be greatly appreciated.

System Names

We have a really large system with a lot of groups and in some cases, systems within the larger system.

We went by a general system name for years. It was basically a long name, and actually it was 3 different symbolic system names listed together and each were separated by the word, "and," to represent our entire system. It actually didn't represent it entirely well, because we have more than 3 systems, but for different reasons it worked for a number of years. It still does to some degree.

Recently I have reclaimed the body's middle name. There's an explanation behind that, and it also plays a part in our new system name.

Anyway, even though I think some inside don't entirely want to adhere to our new system name, JAGA System, they do seem to be adjusting or willing to figure out and come up with something creative as well as meaningful that others will accept. In the meantime, and I suspect it will end up being our final system name or last awhile, we're transitioning to this system name.

For JAGA System, (sounds like Jay-guh), we took the initials from our old system name and they naturally combined into JAGA. It blows my mind that for years and years it never occurred to us to shorten it like this before...as we have signed our full long old system name without ever using initials (at least not that I can ever recall).

The JA represents the body's first and middle name initials; It also happens to match up and represent part of the old system name

The GA represents the initials from the old system name phrasing; We were very divided on whether to erradicate this or not (and come up with something else), but we decided to acknowledge the past and old name while also changing it to mean something else (in a sense), but it could also have the old meaning as well.

The JAGA System name change is also symbolizing some system structure changes and transitions that we are currently working on in this body's life.

We like multiple meanings. ;-)

I don't know if this helps or not, but we recently went through a system name change and that was our process with it (more or less). Some inside think it isn't creative or entirely meaningful or something (can't put the words to it) that they feel fully represents them, their groups, or something.... but at the same time, this new name seems to be overall working out okay.

If we waited until something was agreed on by all, we'd still be stuck with our old name. The majority of us or at least the main front runners finally feel comfortable with the name change, and until something better turns up from others in the system, this is the new name. :-)

JAGA System ;-)

Thats neat that it actually combined into something you could use. Thank you, its interesting and it does give us some ideas to think about.

Yes, it is neat that it did combine into something so naturally like it did.

Good luck with figuring out something that works for your entire system. :-)

Why does the "star" need to have a double R?

Morningstar is a fairly common name in the pagan and Rainbow communities as well as among Jews and Amish / Mennonite people (Morgenstern). Perhaps the double r is meant as a distinguishing mark.

Awesome! We just got a system name recently, from a friend of ours in a neighboring system. (they suggested, we discussed it, voila)..

Congrats. :D

That's how we got Astraea. Which is really just a handle -- not how we think of ourselves (that would be "Laurad people"). We began as Star back on khijol (anonymous shell accounts for plursls), but when khijol went down and we switched (hah) to asarian.org, we couldn't be Star because there was already someone using that handle. A friend suggested Astra, and that reminded us of a picture in an old mythology book that had been in our childhood home (and which we now have), showing floaty spirits rising up in shafts of light with little Wonder Woman tiaras on. (Nothing like us scruffy types, but who cares, it was pretty.) The caption just said Astraea and didn't tell you who her friends were -- or which one she was. Nothing to distinguish her from the others. Was this a goddess with her ladies-in-waiting, or was she (we got this from the Hindu many-armed deities in the same book) one spirit in many forms? That's how we got it. The only problem is it's hard for a lot of people to spell and/or remember. Then they can't find our pages.

Yes, I agree.

Thanks for sharing, Astraea.
