Molly and I thought Multiplicity needed a community icon (you know, one that shows up on the user info page), so together we made an animated gif for that function. It's only 24K, so you can use it if you want for the community:

Although I applaud your effort, I think the Icon makes the age-old assumption that multiplicity is borne of trauma, a point which finds much contention in the community. Therefore, I don't think it's entirely appropriate.

it might not be representing trauma. the expression on the face could be a representation of the effort of splitting or something (not that in my personal experience i found it all that difficult, but if you think of trying to pull something stuck out of something else or if you think of trying to rip a thick piece of cardboard in half...

I thought it was pretty cool actually. For me, its appropriate. And how in the world did you make it animated? Cool stuff.

My initial impression is similar to what [livejournal.com profile] wylddelirium says except I was going to say "one person splitting" rather than "born of trauma". But what I do like about it is that it shows, even when it *is* one person splitting, that they can end up getting along together.

Maybe there could be several community icons and we could rotate them.

Seems too ... I dunno ... not how I would portray multiplicity. Seems to be the "stereotypical" message. I just dunno ... my thoughts aren't too clear right now.

What about this transforming icon I'm using now? I don't mind your animated one but Ash dosn't like it.

I think it'd be a bad idea for that to be a default icon, simply because multiplicity isn't always splitting, and I don't think it's a great idea to reinforce the idea that it is, or that splitting is the most normal and accepted way.

You know what would be neat? If the community held a contest for an icon! :D And everyone in the community would vote on their favourite.

I like your icon.
I still think the sandman/death icon is the best multiplicity icon I've seen so far

it's not animated in Firefox, but if you copy it into IE it works for some reason

interesting. maybe it's something to do with the firefox here in the uni library? I prefer Opera myself but I'm just grateful uni offers firefox too in addition to ie, so i use firefox. (no internet at home)
