Sally Field and her others
Sep. 5th, 2005 03:38 pmSybil has been on the Oh! channel a lot lately. I was watching some wierd movie and then Sally Field jumped on and talks about "the people"...not sure how I feel about this. Pisses me off. I can't stand this movie and I can't stand how she portrays multiplicity and the ending sucks and I hate the movie.
I hate it. Pisses me off.
anyway.

Date: 2005-09-05 10:51 pm (UTC)According to our sources Wilbur meant well but was a self-promoter who liked it best when she was treated like an empress. She was also extremely sloppy about writing up reports and keeping records of prescriptions.
Since we have virtually no information about Shirley Mason and none about her treatment, we do not know what actually happened in those sessions. We've received emails from people who knew her well, who have told us that she was genuinely multiple. That she remained that way to the end of her days. But that's all we really know.
Some time ago, we heard that research was being done on Ms Mason's life which would become a book and film depicting the real events, but we've heard nothing on that front for several years. The project may have died, or been stalled out by legalities.

Date: 2005-09-05 11:00 pm (UTC)I noticed that she can't seem to go for more than five minutes without having some kind of breakdown or behaving in an obviously 'bizarre' way. No wonder people come away from this stuff thinking that they can always "spot the real ones." (So a word to the wise: if you can carry on a conversation without falling completely to pieces or switching, you're Not For Real. That's always good to know.)
And yeah-- it doesn't seem to have a lot to do with the book either, however far the book was from reality.

Date: 2005-09-05 11:09 pm (UTC)Seriously, this is what caused a generation of multiples to believe they had to behave like this in order for others -- including professionals -- to believe it. God, reading that bilge by Kluft and Ross and even Putnam -- all of them eager to re-create that tawdry little film in their office.

Pisses me off!!
