Egh, yeah, having off the walls can be a problem. It's really fun when both Joe and I are switching back and forth, because it can get mad crazy (assuming I'm in a fun mood, and Joe thinks play is a solution for everything). As for norms, who really does get along with them ;-)
As you communicate more, eventually you'll be able to better handle everything. You may not be able to control it, but the entire system will come into better alignment.

okay, i don't always use fun for stuff, i just know that happiness and positive thoughts are more helpful. Negative thoughts and reflections are unfun.
