the email support group I've been on for years just shut down, very suddenly.

I am very bummed :(

Ick. Kinda know the feeling. We were on a couple, left when we decided it wasn't worth putting up with the moderator - someone we think was faking. Later we lost a good friendship because Ramon called her on it, on another list, during a rather heated debate.

That sounds like what happened to Open Multiples. We haven't heard from them in ages.

Most of the good lists we've been on just died from eventual lack of participation. :\

We tried joining darkpersonalities on Topica.. but were rather ignored and then eventually, they stopped sending out our posts. So, other than here, we have nothing.

We were on there but after the coup (Nynomi took front for a while and declared she wasn't multiple - well, she isn't) we made Drama on the list and left. Then once we realized um, well, we're certainly at least median, we didn't go back b/c it wasn't the same.

DP is not what it used to be. The idea was to have a totally uncensored list for multiples, which was to be the alternative to the lists which dominated at the time-- the kind that were full of spoiler warnings and censorship. You were supposed to be able to talk about anything you wanted. Unfortunately, it ended up in a lot of flamewars, to the point where the creators of the list actually got flamed off it.

They chased away the creators of the list? Wow... now that's impressive. I've only seen internet drama get that bad maybe once...

As I understand it, the list kind of got to be dominated by a few specific people, and newbies tended to get either flamed or ignored. A lot of people got flamed, including the Anachronic Army, and they resigned from the list in disgust.

Actually, the Army left due to the arguments, but when they came back, they got flamed for saying they were not multiple, never were and that they wanted to shut down the list.

Nevermind that there were hundreds of people on it that did NOT want it to be shut down, and the Army had given it over to Chimera House and others to take care of while they were gone... they no longer had the control of the list, thus when they requested it be shut down, the new mods/owners said no. Army folks went off, got flamed and left again.

They came back later, and quietly explained that they are, indeed, multiple, and that they were very sorry for everything.

The Army are friends of mine... they admit how fucked it all was, on their own part more than anyone else's.

*points to what you said* Yes. It should also be mentioned for the record, but without getting too specific, that they were under some external pressure to shut down the list and claim they weren't multiple.

Outside pressure, yeah, or the idea that there's a 'right' way to be multiple. We had a 6-7 year phase of thinking that we 'couldn't' be multiple because we weren't like Sybil et al.

Without warning? We hate it when things like that go on right under our unsuspecting noses :( One day lots of friends, the next day our method of communication gone!
