Sep. 20th, 2003 12:05 pmWe like to play around on this site called everything2.com... it's like a big writer-geek video game in some ways, cause you can post writeups on anything you want and they get voted up or down and then you get experience points and you can level up *giggles* and then you get the privilege of voting on other people's stuff, and eventually the ability to cool people's stuff if you think it's cool, and then there are quests you can do where someone is all "anyone who writes something about _____ will get extra points!" and it's all very exciting, especially to
precisegirl :->
but we were frolicking around there one day, and we've written a few little multiple-related things on there, and we hit the bit on dissociative identity disorder. and it just bugged the CRAP out of us, because it was all half-correct and weirdly "off" information, combinations of standard myths about us and things we agree with, and apparently not written by anyone multiple.
so we embarked on this massive adventure of writing something listing and debunking all the standard myths and then sharing what it feels like to us to be multiple. and talking about why we think "DID" is a bad term for it. and it's LONGGGG.
and what we want to do is post the first draft of it here and a few other places and get feedback from people, and then incorporate the feedback into the thing and post it. so we would really like it if people would read it (below, under a cut tag because it's huge) and post comments and let us know in the comment if we can quote them on anything :)
oh, and i should add that in the actual document, a lot of the phrases have sarcastic links... it's set up so that we can make, say, the words "Myths and stereotypes" link to a writeup called "Mental illness: two incorrect perspectives," and the bit about colin ross being a "prominent author and lecturer on multiplicity" links to "wanker. " And so on. So any time we say "someone in our system" or "a friend of ours in another system" it actually links to their name, you just can't see those here.
