Just out of curiosity, does anyone here work as a moderator or mediator? Has anyone ever used a moderator or mediator to sort out problems between members?

Sure, on Laura there is a lot of mediation. What do you need to know? Or did you specifically mean an out-of-house mediator to arbitrate when in-house people have disagreements and things like that?

I was just curious...it strikes me as a skill that it would be easy to become practiced at, as a system. Therefore I was wondering if any of you mediate as a profession.

I haven't professionally, no. I have done the peers-helping-peers type programs...

Have never used an outside person for between member problems.

I did one ADR (alternative dispute resolution) course and the knowledge has come in handy for negotiating amongst ourselves in a rational way. We have used our therapist as a mediator from time to time, although as we've gotten better at it it's been less necessary.
