Have you ever been able to tell that there was something about a person online?

Like being multiple for instance... and not had a way to ask them?

We work tech support... there's a customer from our support that just... lkjhdglkj... that feeling?

And then there's THESE THINGS, associated with him... in Cafe Press.

Even if they're not meant to be multiple, I think they do somewhat apply.

There have been a few times when we wondered whether people we knew might be multiple. There were two times when we actually turned out to be right.

We haven't really come up with a good, polite way to ask the question, though. "Uh, not to be rude or anything, but, um... how many people you got in there?"

The last time I did that (very gently) it was a client and she broke down crying. Not because she was so miserable, but because she knew that I not only could see it but understood and wasn't going to think anything .. you know, dumb.

That stuff's pretty cool.. and could be an indication that they are.. or are very very very very very friendly.

I am honestly not seeing multiplicity in this. It could apply, sure, but I wouldn't make a judgement based on it.

Back in the hippie days, everybody talked like that. Maybe this guy is an old Whole Earther or something.

They do apply! :)

And I've had things happen like that to me before. Multiple, survivor in general, gay, trans, likes me.. all sorts of things.

I can tell, but I've never figured out how to mention *any* of them properly. It's like, with the homosexual thing, it's easy, because I can just randomly mention something, or wear my lesbian pendant, blah blah blah.

There's no gathering places or social events for multiples, no widely-known figures of speech that aren't demeaning, no symbol that is widely known.. it's kinda sucky. o.x

Outside of therapy groups, which we ourselves don't want to be involved in, there haven't really been any good non-online outlets for multiples wanting to meet others-- not in a social context, at least. There have been several attempts at a "MultiCon," but all of them fell flat. Back when we were doing a lot of work on Pavilion, someone had suggested making a list of systems by geographical location, although some didn't even want to give that out.

One easy way to start such a thing is to organise a floating tea party. Two or more plurals congregate and are out as themselves in social contexts where either no one is paying close attention or it can be written off as street theater (via appropriate t-shirts, &c.). Of course, discretion and all that, the usual disclaimers apply, &c.
