We've got several people who appropriated their names from other sources. Often it happened when they couldn't give a name for themselves and so we tagged them with a name based on a superficial resemblance (in personality or looks) to someone we knew, just as something to tag them with. I admit it does get a little embarassing at times when we're misapprehended-- "oh, so you have so-and-so from X show/book/game in there?" "Uh, no, he's just got the same name...."
