A lot of times they come back. Gabriel disappeared for 23 years and he came back (it had only been nine years to him). Don't despair. Leave doors open and let'em know they're welcome.
They might be just on vacation or something. A lot of times Andy leaves and we can't get hold of him and it turns out he's gone home, to the place he lived before he came to us.
