further to the badge project
ok i am gonna annoy the ops a bit no doubt :P but in the earlier thread about badges i expressed interested in making some, and that is still going through my mind, so a couple of ideas have been generated that currently need input, and more ideas and churning through the works
firstly with inputs, i have a couple of badly drawn images to show to illustrate ideas that have been come up with. The colour in the images are not "true colour" but they are significant and meaningful
first suggestion:

in this option the screen has six buttons places close to it, in a " winged cross" configuration. this would use a "software keypad" ( ie, letters and symbols are selected on the screen) . this would be the most usable of the two options at night, because the keys can share a backlight with the LCD display.
the depression shown on the diagrams for both options represents a location of a button that would be used to cycle through settings/images/animations ( yes, i am aiming for a degree of animation to be possible)
second suggestion:
Front view

Rear View

In this option, the key pad is moved to the rear of the device, with the left most item in the diagram being a lock switch, to make it harder to register unintended key presses. this option allows a more extensive mini keypad
the white object depicted in the diagram represents the pin ( or if another method is registered, that.
options for data storage and transfer so far under consideration are a data cable, with a mini connector, similar in nature to a mini USB lead with an on-board storage, or, alternatively a flash card scheme, similar to those of some digital cameras.
it has also been suggested that perhaps additional data storage would be desirable in addition to display image data, is this something people want?
also, as it has been suggested in the previous thread, for " house styles" icons to be displayed, so a next question would be, is this something that might change? ( current assumption is yes). if not, it could be hardwired for which to show. the current thinking is to have part of the case translucent, with coloured LED's underneath lighting the silhouette of the icon shapes. these would be shielded from sharing led light source with the main screen for obvious reasons.
( i will ask later on in the process what icons people would like, but i am working on a guesstimate of approximately five options that can be mixed, which reminds me...)
can a house have more than one style at a time? ( ie, would having the ability to turn on more than one icon be useful )
anyway, what do people think?
eep! i forgot something
also what case colours would people want?, this will have to be a vote, but doesn't stop the idea of placings "decals" on the case ( ie images "pasted" on to the case. ... not immediately but isn't being ruled out)
the case would be a "basic colour", so for example: black, white, red, blue, green, purple, etc ( yes i know that technically black and white are not colours, but still )

There was a post made a couple of weeks ago here on the subject, and we've been advising her on it since then.

but seriously, thank you everyone for your input so far. and it does seem that the more input i ask for the more likely it will be a useful product at the end, afterall, waht is the point of making soemthing that isn't of use to you?

Anyway, i think that with case colours probably black. Internal vote came back as black, so, yeah. The reasoning behind it was that whoever was at the front, in their various style of clothing or behaviour would be able to work with black while some other colours like green only appeal (and only co-ordiante) with a limited range of other colours and people.
Would there be a vast range of icons or animations? Mel (original) seems to think that she would like to design her own icon and somehow upload it onto hers (if she had one) to show not only that it was her but how unique she is. As suggested with the USB lead. But just a vast base could suit aswell if the uploading option can't work.

this is because there is a potential for rather complex things to be done with the device, that would not be easily doable from the local keypad, so being able to upload a pattern/sequence, is almost a necessity.
the methords being debated for this is a flash card/card reader/writer combination, and a USB-like cable scheme
an internal image base is something that i would like to do regardless of uploading capability, but will depend on my ability to
coner, persuade some artist/graphics types to help :Pno subject

We like the second idea.
And we like red, black, blue, and purple! ^^

Favoured colours here: pink and gold for Aurea and the northern islands; deep blue, deep red, black and eggshell white for Koveh; sunset colours for Dascia; green and silver for the Eastern Islands, blue and silver for the Western Islands. I like sea-blue, being from Halath, in the southern Bay Area in Dascia.
