(no subject)

hey, just wondering

both myself and one of my friends systems have "theams" o.0
like...each of my headmates and I could be seen as one of the five elements (spirit included) and hers seam to represent the seven deadly sins.

we where wondering if we're just freaks or if there are other people like us out there.

Do you mean themes?

[identity profile] myryseaproject.livejournal.com 2007-01-13 10:51 am (UTC)(link)
Hehe, don't worry. XD

In our system we don't, though sometimes unnoficially we might put ourselves into categories, just like normal people would do I s'pose.

M) It may be self-reinforcing, self-fulfilling. Someone notices a pattern, or imagines one where none actually exists, and the others find it convincing. As events progress as normal, individuals are more likely to think of themselves in terms of their place in the structure, and to make decisions accordingly. As events progress further, individuals more and more come to resemble the roles they expect themselves to fill, and this is taken as evidence of the structure's accuracy in a feedback loop that effectively locks people into predetermined roles. It's not impossible to break out of, but is a very easy state of being to fall into. As mentioned, also present in singlet interactions, but generally weaker because of the less constant proximity; people come and go, and so solid patterns rarely survive (mostly existing within families), whereas if you can't leave a single brain such things are more likely to develop.
I suspect it's similar to the 'each person represents' or even 'each person is an emotion' concept: once treated as truth or likely to be true, people tend to conform to how they see themselves or how they're expected to act, further reinforcing the perception of a structure.

That's my perception, based on speculation and an experience of almost falling into a similar line of thought, though eventually rejecting it (and thus removing its relevance, wholly disbelieving it). I could be wrong.

We're very aware of this process and have termed it "clichéing oneself". It is one reason we have frontrunners going in shifts, and why people retire from frontrunning. Having to hide or disguise parts of one's personal or cultural nature in order to blend in and comply with earth world standards takes a lot of energy. It's all too easy to fall into just the kind of thing you're talking about.

People are bound to apply a certain amount of objectification to their relationship with anyone who is different. It's easy to overinterpret or misinterpret when you have little or no (or the wrong) frame of reference.

This sounds a little bit like my recent post. Do you think that could be a reason why certain ones of us are feeling drained? Though we don't know why some are more affected than others.

It is why a lot of our usual-frontrunners have been feeling drained and very likely why I have been getting stuck as sole frontrunner a lot. Some may be more affected than others due to personal disposition. People have different amounts of stress tolerance.

The Tej Agni group is very fire (some would say air) orientated, but none of the other groups in Kasiya are based around elements. I don't think.

Well we sort of fit into different catagories like that. I agree with [livejournal.com profile] sharpsight though. You spot a pattern, and people start to fit into it. At its worst people find themselves moulding to what you think they should be. At its most harmless I think it's like horoscopes really. You might fit them or you might not, but you often see what you want to see.

no you are normal(-ish) here we have the whole dark and light thing going. And we have an elemant too. so u are ok

[identity profile] weirdiguess.livejournal.com 2007-01-13 08:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, here they seem to go for the well meaning killer type? Dunno if I fit that but they'd claim I don't have to. They're kinda different though. 'SoulBonds', stuff like that.

No, there are too many of us for that. The closest we would come to such a thing is the way we are organized into guilds back home, which are a matter of disposition and chosen occupation(s). A person can belong to more than one guild, and it is not actually necessary to belong to one at all. People also take pride in whatever nation they are from, and there are different flags and banners in colors that represent the different nations and regions. Gabe has a Koveht flag vest... rust-colored with black trim and blue fringe and a flying bird applique.

Talking about home is a whole other story and probably would take up too many comments to explain. I only mentioned the group I'm a part of. I've heard that the planetary diplomats that visit the Stellar Lighthouse each has a transparent pillar placed behind their seats in the room everyone gathers. Inside the pillar is an object or some sort of symbol that represents their race or affiliation. I've never seen it myself, but Pepper says that some have magic or money or artwork and other things hovering within their pillars. It sounds like an art gallery to me. :)

That sounds gorgeous. Wow!

I'm hoping to see it one day. :)

In our multiplicity, our world, we are sepearated into 5 tribes. Each tribe is connected to an element, and those within it are therefore associated with the element of their tribe. Sometimes that shows in our names, but it goes deeper than that. I don't think the elements connect with what they mean in this world. And I have had far too much beer to explain this properly.

beer good.... next morning.. not good *chuckle*

No, we get what you're saying. :)
