Just a bit of a brief introduction about who I am, and what I'm going through right now. I know, that this is probably not going to be a common place for me to say anything. I am disociative, though do not meet the criteria for DID. Also have a lot of other stuff going on in that regard. That is in the ``mental'' health regard. Look at my profile for some idea of what that means.

we defintily DO NOT meet the criteria for DID. (i'm on a mission to get rid of that term).

Thanks. I think the term DID does serve a certian purpose. So, getting rid of it has to be done with great care. As with getting rid of any label. A lot of the time, people just see the problems with such labels. The thing is, knowing I'm disociative, I start to understand things better about myself. Also knowing that there is a ``close'' term for my disociative state (DID) I can look for information by looking for that term. Rather than trying to find information by describing what I'm expericning. So, though I know such terms are often abused, they do serve a purpose when one is trying to understand hirselves.

DID denies that we are ... we. ANd in general I don't think I'm disordered. Werid and crazy, but not disordered

I understand your perspective, and totally agree with it. The language of DID is poor. The problem is, do we throw the entire thing out, because of poor language? If I have a client who states sie has DID I'm not going to treat her differently, though I will understand certian aspects of her life story better. If someone knows that sie has DID sie can now look and find information based on that understanding. What I *generally* am opposed to even existing is the personality disorders. Though I can see some benifit to them also.

I suppose I would have to agree that having a basis for diagnosis is generally good.

But the community of mental health professionals needs to widen their understanding of what they are dealing with. All multiples do not fit their criteria.

Well, I agree, all too often the mental health proffesion has too narow and too unhealthy a perspective of what it is that they are ``treating''. I wish this could easily be changed, but it will take time. I think that the mental health proffesionals are starting to be more understanding, it has taken a long time for that to happen, though, it is happening...
